Good question which I think there is no answer but
we should not judge all people the same and never judge a book by its cover luckily there are good people in the world.
Myself all I can say is that why be a liar in a relationship unless you have something to hide and if you are a liar then do not expect your partner to respect you because I would not and it would be over.
but its got nothing to do with the gender...

i think lies could never actually destroy others if one just realize that at any given second people could lie in our face, people could hurt us at any time of day.
But if we choose to put those things on our top list priority and deal with every single one of them what our life could actually become? We will have no time to grow right?
Its just my opinion that, if i caught sum1 lied at my face and hes dear to me, i wont jumped right out of my chair and confront him and made him to admit his lies. It would be totally useless.
I could however, ask him nicely, with a smile if i have to, but if he just lie again then well i have 2say, im sorry goodbye.
He is not worth my time.
And if i think that his lies is a harmless white lies, i would just forget about it and move on.
Life is too short to deal with unecessary things!
you are right. Maybe there is a reason why our partner lies and one could be is that they do not want us to get hurt or they still want to keep the relationship. Sometimes, we must not jump to conclusion immediately and we should asked our partner and give him the chance to defend himself. ANd if we are not contented with it, its time to let go of him and look for someone who can be honest to us. I like your attitude girl. A very positive woman!!
