Is It The Beginning Of The End For Covid? And A Return To "Normalcy"?

wow

In Wuhan, China -- where covid was 1st detected ...
Only ONE new case has been detected.
Numbers of medical personnel have been reduced.
Travel restrictions are being eased.
Work is being resumed.

A harbinger of a Return To "Normalcy"? ... grin

They did a good job to clean up their mess.

Now the rest of the affected world need to learn from them so we get rid of this virus.
The Chinese recently published figures (say, last 7 days) stretch credibility to a huge degree. Essentially they are unbelievable. Particularly since they are taking their foot off the break, resuming work and reopening shops etc in the South. Remember in 3-1/2 months it went from 1-300,000 and this approximates to 2^18, so talking an exponential weekly rate in excess of 2; even one undetected case can result in renewed surge. (Over 15 weeks it equates to a weekly multiplying factor of 2.3)
True...

But we have the time to watch and see if the virus is slowing down...in the mean time...continue practising self isolation...we need more information about this virus...
the problem is the maximum constraint cannot be applied for very long without enormous damage to economy and thus life. So the governments will apply the brakes, ease off, re-apply and so on. It is going to be a delicate balancing act, essentially, as you say, LL77, buying time. My answer to the question is NO it is not the beginning of the end, but the beginning of a long haul.
Let's hope Mic. thumbs up wave
Well Mic what do you think, all better no virus?

We have to carry on...and perhaps our economy needs to be protected...I am not completely affected economically by the restrictions...as I work as an essential service employee...but I do want to stay healthy and not be subjected to illness...so far so good...

As far as I am concerned...the Canadian government has acted swiftly...and information regarding the sick or information on the virus has been transparent...most of our cases have been mild to moderate...the deaths in my province are not that high...but caution should be maintained for people who are immuno-compromised and elderly...
@loulou I'm effectively self-quarantined anyway, since I teach online at home, students mostly from China Asia and Russia. I'm retired and although my savings just took a second big hit (GFC 2007, and Covid-2019) I don't care a helluva lot. Muddle along and see - whatever comes comes. So many of my students' plans have fallen in a heap of course - travel, study, emigration, I can't see any of the postgrads being able to take up positions in USA or Australia or Canada; bitter disappoint for some.

Come to your own decision.
Fargo

It is a set back for some but it won't last...after all America does not have enough qualified people to do certain jobs...age related or due to economic reasons...education is expensive and brain drain is here...sad really...just a thought...
Events change plans, Fargo.

E.g. -- Louis Feinberg's music teacher suggested the young protégé study classical violin in Europe.
WWI intervened, young Feinberg's musical career was thwarted, and few have heard of him sad

BUT --
MANY have heard of Larry Fine (Feinberg's eventual stage name) -- who gained enduring fame as one of The Three Stooges smile

"There is no great loss without some small gain."
- Caroline Ingalls, quoted by Daughter Laura Ingalls Wilder in her Little House Books.

In Mr. Feinberg's instance, the "small gain" wasn't so ... SMALL!

Sen. Rand Paul tests positive for coronavirus
China's Government knew about the risk, identified it, were the first to know & knowingly allowed 100s of 1000s of people to leave Wuhan & spread the virus across the globe..Then tried to cover it up..! Gorgeous morning for hikinglaugh
It would be very good news if the virus has a natural lifespan. Not so good for us elsewhere if they are controlling it now with traditional Chinese medicine. About to go comment on Tatami's blog since she pointed me in that direction with a comment she made.
An we are live 98 cases in NYPD
President Trumps News Conference within 25 min. Sounds like NYC will be locked down or controlled within city limits?
I hope we have a vaccine soon...
