The flu, world war one peace, and world war two war....

... US president Wilson, professor and idea man behind his 14 points for peace Great War armistice, embryo seed for the UN, was reportedly a victim of the 1918 (Spanish) influenza---epidemic in Gay Paris at the time. We think of the flu, as with this current novid 19, as having many physical signs and symptoms. But in some cases, it affects the ability to think, even if no frank severe encephalitis is fully present. President Wilson's usually forceful personality, influential in a somewhat generous treaty proposal with Germany, apparently was in no shape for later argument with French politician Clemenceau (known as the tiger), who wanted a pound of flesh from the German broken, starving and demoralized state. Witnesses say that Wilson was shaky, confused and anything but a match for the French. Sort of like Creepy Joe will be in debates with President Trump. But I digress. When the final plan was signed in Vesailles, some 20 miles away, the already badly beaten Germans were skewered with impossible war debt, humiliating other terms, and almost total demilitarisation. Most historians see a direct connection with the rise of Hitler and Nazism over the following 20 years. Wish I could make this stuff up.

Not for the bright and really educated. The point was that some features of influenza can compromise mental abilities, and may lead to grave historical consequences, as most historians well know, OM. The reference to Biden and Trump was a clever distraction, which hit its mark. Didn't know at that public community college alma mater of yours, that they has an associates degree in missingthepointology. With a possible dual major of virtue signaling administration.
This a take on Wilson, U.S. involvement in WWI and the Versailles Peace Treaty presented nearly 60 years ago ...

It's an abbreviated version; the complete complete version is available, if interested.

It varies significantly from what's presented in History Books.
The presenter asserts -- "I was there. I should know."

hmmm
Use y'all's own judgement.

Thanks,. Micman. Nice broad view on the issue. My point was that illnesses such as the flu can affect history. But we already know how illnesses can often do so.
To clarify things ...

The reference to The Don & Biden was a brief aside.

Our esteemed OP compared Biden (who may be exhibiting early symptoms of Dementia) with Prez Wilson (who may've been mentally impaired by Spanish Flu during WWI Peace Negotiations).

He contrasted that comparison with a comparison of The Don to French Prime Minister Clemenceau (aka The Tiger) who vigorously demanded harsh terms be imposed on Germany in the Versailles Peace Treaty following WWI.

F.U. you and all your conservative wrong thinkers. I am not going to get into a who is better educated scramble with you.
Olde

That is all he can cling to...roll eyes

Our esteemed OP is not alone in pointing out Biden is not the same as, say, when he ran against Obama in the '08 'Crat Primaries ...

... and may do poorly debating The Don -- See @ 6:00.

Sorry for the hijack

You always have to have the last word, don't you Miclee? It reflects on your sense of insecurity.

OP. Volare, O O. Cantare, O O O O!
what was this wishy-washy nonsense supposed to say? Again you said nothing. Let me momentarily give you credit for a little intelligence, whilst you claim a great deal. Say something intelligent and sensible and intelligible for a change. If you have a language challenge, tell us, we will adapt.
@FargoFan: was it my comment you meant ? sorry about the "wishy-washy nonsense" - it was a reaction to what Freedman said in that video. Have read some material from the German General Staff and the political thinking of the time. After a few sentences, it was apparent that the topic was too large to fit in a comment.
