psychological effects of isolation

So, while in this isolation state that most of us are sharing, have you had any epiphanies? Any newly discovered purpose for your life? Any thoughts you feel are worth sharing? Anything you think may be meaningful to anyone else?

Me....I just got back into playing Spades. :)

...been thinking though.

Happy isolation all...stay safe.

As every country has varying stages of lockdown, it is difficult to compare like with like.
I'd probably crack up if I were in China or Spain.
But my own experience is, I'm loving it.
Sure, there are disadvantages, the main one being able to meet people I care about at close quarters. I hate the fact that people are sick and dying. I am hating the uncertainty of how long it will last.
But apart from that, I am loving not having to go into work every day.
I am loving not being tied to a schedule.
I am loving taking the dogs for a walk when I feel like it.
I am loving having time to tidy up the garden with a view to planting veg shortly.
I am loving most things about it really.
Always have been a home body so that part of isolation does not bother me.
Miss being able to go to the library to get books.
Not being able to go where I want to go.
Thinking too about the sick and dying people everywhere and as Molly said; Not knowing when this will end
You too healthy Johnny.................comfort

off, not "of"
No....Seclusion shares similarities with the word/meaning of isolation so closely, that the two are frequently mistaken as one for the other. Despite these common and mistaken similarities, there is one slight and significant difference that differentiate said two, that in turn, certainly warrant this seemingly insignificant difference and existence of the words themselves pertaining to the Etymological and developmental history of both, that are, and have been universally-accepted in proper Modern English for approximately the same, and equal amount of time. (Run-on sentence anyone)? Just what is that slight difference between the two? Seclusion is a choice that one usually takes upon themselves, whereas isolation is more often forced upon oneself, or more importantly, against their ability to have that freedom of choice to choose between the two….……..For me personally, I truly don’t give an F between the two. What matters most in either state stated, is that I double my intake of high-quality Whiskey to slow down my overwhelming thoughts of the subtle differences between these two similar words that can, and are commonly used interchangeably by those that understand even the most basic facets of either proper, or improper Modern English…..Lol...
cheers
I miss getting out a bit Molly. If not for the serious nature of the virus, you would be in your glory the way it sounds.

thumbs up

Stay safe over there.

BC....I always have been an extremely busy body....always on the run it seems, normally only watching about 1 hour of tv a day. Now, well....that has changed a bit. I miss the restaurant food, and going out to play pool.

Hopefully we don't have long left, but I don't think we will be totally out of the woods until a vaccine is discovered...and even after that, who knows. dunno

It is a shame gas is going down so low in price and a person cannot enjoy it. I suppose, saving more money not driving at all. laugh

take care Jenny

Johnny,

your blog did remind me of the classic movie, "Breakfast At Epiphanies" starring Audrey Hepburn.
laugh love it CandyKid....not only your comment, but a little whiskey don't hurt either once in awhile. I will make you a promise, if this goes on for a year....I will be resorting to a few bottles of Jack myself. laugh

take care....and stay safe.

Yes Robert...you got it! That is exactly what I was thinking about when I wrote this.laugh

Actuallly, what prompted me was the fact that I am just sitting around here....not doing anything all that productive....thinking....how is life going to change for me/for all perhaps....and how can I make myself more useful given this new environment. Thus....I was trying to steal somebody else's idea (if they happen to have posted one here). laugh So far....whiskey is the winner. thumbs up
Correction:

I got a new repice for my Repice Cook Book.

Darn auto-correct, it doesn't know how to spell correctly. Sheesh! doh
What Johnny?

You're rejecting my idea for Granola Bran Bars? Gee, that's what my ex-GF would do. Put down everything I do. And then, and then, and then, she'd want me to eat her home cooking, after she'd wipe her sweaty armpits while making sandwiches for us. help
Johnny,

with My Chiropractor/Massage Lady, because of the keep away 6 feet, she called me today because for now she's only doing her work by phone. My shoulder that was kind of out of place, feels better now that she talked to me. beer
One more thing,

I met a lady the other day. Don't know what her face looks like with the mask on, but she said she wanted to take to her apartment so we can do a 96.. instead of a 69.

I asked her, "How does a 96 work?

She answered, "In a 96, we face away from each other."

What the heck?
frustrated

laugh Robert....

I am not sure the procedure my friend had. I am sure Jac was right...he was probably not being safe. But who knows....if you can be healed with a phone call. rolling on the floor laughing
Johnny,

you should have warned them, that those jello things tasted like they were made using water from a toilet.
doh
seriously Robert...you cannot imagine how horrible they were.

How could I warn them....the bartender was standing right there....you cannot be rude in front on her. grin
Johnny,

Some guy came out of a hotel restroom and said, 'Hey, check it out! They have a short drinking fountain in that restroom." Later, he found out it was a Bidet. doh

Why do people who use Bidets always have a wet spot on the behind of their pants? confused
The look on their face Robert was like...

from all happy and smiling and glowing face to...whoa...things just got serious here. laugh
Johnny,

you ever do the drinking beer through a hose with a funnel at a party?

That's crazy.. isn't it? Maybe? beer
Johnny,

it's like Bidding on something at auction.

No, it's a water fountain like stream that shoots out of a toilet to clean rear ends after they're done doing potty.
good God Robert....we were blessed when toilet paper was invented....otherwise, there is nothing wrong with a single fair smooth well placed scoop with the tips of your fingers. Now, these bidets are just getting out of control. No wonder the world is going down hill. help
Nope, never did that. I'm not much of a drinker, but I did one time hold the beer up too high, it poured into my nose.. At least, it cleared out my sinuses. grin
And Johnny,

I worry, if bidets might stream water to the inside of a person. Then it would be like, when we were kids, my friends would drink too much water out of a slow water hose, and then they'd shake their stomach, we'd put our ear to it, and hear all the water slushing around in there. laugh

People could get a beer belly , but with water, and water going in through the bottom, instead of through the mouth.
I never done that when I was a kid...sloshing stomach with water. Hmmm, yes...law suits Robert. Spraying water "IN" all the wrong places. You ever hear that song, Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places? Well....

laugh
On special occasions, and maybe a bit of wine now and then.. but not really a drinker.

I told one lady, she and I should play Wet T-shirt Contest. She asked, "How does that benefit me?"
I just grinned. grin
You got to be a bit more subtler than that Robert, with the wet T-shirt contest. I am not sure even how to go about it....but....you know...subtle. laugh
Johnny,

and if we do find a woman to have romantic wrestling action with on this site. Right away, she tells me afterwards, "Don't go blogging about what happened here tonight. Alright? When we're on the blogs, I don't know you, and you don't know me. Okay?" dunno
Okay Robert....thanks for the fun tonight.

Stay safe over there friend....take care.

and

good night

cheers
Johnny,

I sthink she was trying to give you a hint... maybe she likes you.. you know what I mean. grin

As for me, naah, I don't even think of romantic wrestling these days.. Nope, too busy doing nothing here.
you sound like me....busy with doing nothing. laugh

take care....chat soon.
All right Johnny,

thanks for the fun, and to you and everyone on here, Stay Safe, Take Care. popcorn groundhog
I think we are good examples of what isolation does to people Robert. rolling on the floor laughing

gnite
I miss shopping. For anything - just to get out among the people. As my son says, "you can't go anywhere - you're at the age where you would die". Being subtle is not one of his strong points. laugh I've also learned that I can hear "Grandma" 1,742 times a day before the inside of my brain wants to explode but you just power through it and smile and get them a cookie or better yet bake some cookies with them. Love, kindness, patience and understanding is definitely a must when anyone is stuck in a lock down of any kind.
Hey buddies robrt and johnny
reunion hug
Got up early morning here feeling exhausted from work but am okay...had 2days sick leave then back to work

As isolation and quarantine measures continue, monotony and boredom will likely set in.
This can obviously help fill time and provide stimulation. However, variety is important, and it might also be helpful to engage in other creative pursuits and hobbies that can be done on your own
Where possible, building exercise into a routine is also an effective way of counteracting feelings of monotony and boredom and reducing feelings of stress.

laugh KP, I am same here...but I get out once every couple days to get some groceries. :)

The way it sounds, there might be an end in sight...well, hopefully a safe one anyway.

Take care.

Ysa,

do you happen to have a pillow with Johnny's picture silk-screened on it? laugh
I heard something like that, or did I read about it in the Tabloid magazine, The Enkwirerer?
Hello YSA hug grin

That is a great tip....working in some exercise. thumbs up

I read were you were exposed...hopefully you did not catch the virus. I see where doing lung exercises is highly recommended. It is nice you are getting some time off to rest up.

Stay safe.

What Robertlaugh YSA has a pillow with me on it? rolling on the floor laughing blushing I would be honored to on her pillow, with her on top of me. grin
