V - there is difference between being arrested and taken into custody - but I suppose you did not learn that lesson growing up in white suburbia. For you it is not about facts ,but shock and awe.
I think you may have meant W not V. I grew up in white suburbia yes but that doesn't mean I didn't learn from the school of hard knocks. I have 70 years on this Earth and nothing surprises me any more. As for shock yes I just saw this story and found it an incredibly rare incident and thus blog worthy.
If nothing else the reporter shows the best way to behave when being into police custody. professor
Let's wait for the full story. CNN has history of misrepresenting situations and trying to deceive their viewers. Was he removed for his safety and the safety of others? It seems bizarre to me that he would be in the MIDDLE of all the officers (rather than reporting and filming from the outside which is the journalistic norm). Shít could have been about to seriously hit the fan and the reporter and his crew may have been putting themselves and others in serious danger be refusing to remove themselves to a safer position.
Chancer - I get the feeling you enjoy thinking the worst of people. Yours is world of Tribalism where anyone outside your small group is the enemy, to be treated with disdain. Lighten up. Take a breathe.
That actually made me laugh @oldeguy, since when it comes to Trump, his most vocal opponents always interpret the worst possible interpretation in pretty much every scenario. Hence the diagnosis of Trump Derangement Syndome. In this instance i'm simply urging caution in rushing to judgement, like i mentioned CNN have history of nefarious deception. If the crew was arrested simply for responsibly doing journalism, then i'm on their side. If they purposely inserted themselves into a dangerous situation and refused to move when asked, then i have little sympathy. Manufactured outrage is a specialty of fake news. So let's wait for the full picture.
Olde is steeped in Alinsky-ism!laugh
Olde isn't afraid to speak out - as opposed to those who cower in the shadows.
Like Alinsky I frequently chose to withdraw from confrontation and let the participants sort things out - sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't - that life
I realise I'm rather deaf, but all I could hear was the journalist saying that they were in the process of moving away when they saw the police and fire services arrive and then repeatedly asking the officers where they wanted them to go as they were willing to move to wherever they were asked. dunno
CNN making the News again!laugh
That's an Alinsky who didn't exist!
Whichever - I am done here - you are free to tell this story to the audience as you please.
It is nice we live in the land of the free.
@Jac you saw a very short clip that CNN decided to show. For anyone that's been awake the last decade, that doesn't necessarily mean it represents the whole story truthfully. What happened leading up to that point? It's really not difficult to ask yourself questions. Engage natural curiosity. There are so many 'stories' in recent times that have succeeded in eliciting outrage only for the story to be quite a lot different as more details were eventually known. Journalists aren't always honest arbiters of truth. Sometimes they serve as activists and purposely seek to deceive to drive whatever their desired narrative is. Jussie Smollett and the Covington Kids are two blaring examples. Truth didn't matter as the outrage machine went into overdrive and details were deliberately misrepresented. Thankfully the truth eventually won, but it's naive to underestimate the damage that deceptive and fake vicious news can do. Anyway, rant over. I made clear i'm not against the CNN crew if they were honestly going about their job. However, if they inserted themselves into danger, were asked to move to a safer position and refused to do so, then i have little sympathy.
Looks like the police are trying to get their heads mashed in with their own helmet. I'm honestly starting to understand the reason why Americans sleep with a gun under the pillow.
I realise that there might be more to the story than we saw, or I heard (I could only hear the journalist and nothing else), but given what the journalist was saying about being in the process of moving when police and fire services arrived, being willing to move further and asking where they should move to...
...seemed an unlikely scenario for the reason for arrest.

Unless of course, the police were being unreasonably authoritarian.
The governor of the state takes responsibility for the arrest, to my understanding. It would be nice to know under what grounds he was arrested.

Otherwise, I am left to assume he and his crew was arrested for no reason...

While somebody(s) with very questionable conduct roams free yet...

I am just confused is all. dunno
Were they supposed to have left the streets otherwise get arrested? Okay..fine if so...it allows us to understand things.

thumbs up
This what one of the reporters told CNN headquarters.
Police told the crew they were being detained because they were told to move and didn't, one member of the CNN crew relayed to the network.

Maybe they weren't actually arrested.

hmmm
Anyone care to Explain the difference?

Perhaps Mic it is in the way it's recorded:

1. Arrested. A black mark that will most likely affect a persons ability to do some things, like getting certain jobs.

2. Detained. No black mark with little to no effect on one's future.
Arrested/Taken Into Custody differs from Detained -- such as being pulled over for a traffic violation.

The "black mark"/record would result from being Charged With A Crime.

Anyone else wanna give it a try?

Mic - the difference is being question about an infraction vs being charged for an infraction. IN both cases the arresting agent is obligated to read said individual his/her Miranda Rights. Detained is a lower level wherein the individual is held back for questioning. Detainee might be asked to show ID as with a traffic violation or even empty his/her pockets for an building security scan.
But then you already knew the answer. Didn't you?
I also think they mug and print you when they arrest you. Detained probably not. They can detain you just for questioned I think, without charges being brought.
As for black marks one need do nothing to find them on your record. I had my identity stolen. It took two years to get the carnage cleaned up. I carried around a passport to prove I wasn't other guy.
LOL - A lot TV cop show "experts" running around.
What's the difference between being arrested and being detained?
"Arrested" means you have been taken into custody and can't leave. You can be "detained" for a short period of time if a police officer or other person believes you may be involved in a crime. In either case, you should assert your 5th Amendment right to remain silent and speak to an attorney before saying anything to the police.

Dear Minneapolis and other rioting cities,

Please remember when looting and burning down your communities, nobody comes and fixes it up
and all the business owners leave for 50 years, I told you so.

Good luck,
City of Detroit
MIc yes I typo'ed V instead W. I am not perfect. Are you happy I am not perfect?
I am sorry to slide off topic - but I can't wonder why the president finally mentioned Louisville an hour ago. IS it because Louisville is in a Red state? Whereas Minneapolis is very, very blue?
Mic - so you like it when others employ shock and awe. Such Tactics are reserved the GOP cause. Well get over it. What is good for goose, is good for the gander.
Mic - I don't speak Icon - but if English is too difficult for you to manage, I will try try to learn this alien tongue.
OG if you want a few pics for Mic I have a few he is very fond of!rolling on the floor laughing
