So a short story - a Fierce Fearsome Woman (3)

I returned from exile in New Zealand after the Vietnam war had ended - 1979/80 and marvelled at the winter sunshine. Twenty five or more years had flown since the hole in the floor. My mother by then was planning retirement. To my amazement she had been teaching senior high physics for 15 years in a boys high school in northern beaches Sydney, it just didn't add up, her maths had never been great and to transition from 'home science' to physics was hard to believe.
In my final year at high school I had attended the Harry Messel School of Physics - Hermann Bondi, Werner von Braun Fred Hoyle - not sure about Fred Hoyle - and had won a small prize for which I selected a book - Physics Woodall and Starling 1300 pages thick, 1958 edition. My mother had used this through the years, she told me, in pristine condition, not a mark. I still have it. Somehow she had bootstrapped herself from minimal to competent maths and physics level and navigated 20 plus years of senior physics in high school. She was a formidable woman, 149 high, and very intimidating I assure you. I am very sure the 180cm+ boys were wary of crossing her path.

You are rightly proud of her & vice versa.

Many mothers have so much more to offer. Glad she got to.
I second Orzzz statement about mothers.
