Obama 'one of the sleaziest and most dishonest figures' in US political history

Tucker Carlson described former President Obama as "one of the sleaziest and most dishonest figures in the history of American politics" after his eulogy at the funeral of civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) on Thursday.

Carlson also described the former president as "a greasy politician" for calling on Congress to pass a new Voting Rights Act and to eliminate the filibuster, which Obama described as a relic of the Jim Crow era that disenfranchised Black Americans, in order to do so.

"Barack Obama, one of the sleaziest and most dishonest figures in the history of American politics, used George Floyd's death at a funeral to attack the police," Carlson said before showing a segment of Obama's remarks.

Obama gave lengthy remarks about Lewis at Thursday's funeral, but the part that got the most attention was his vehement push for Congress to pass a new Voting Rights Act, which was an issue that Lewis had pursued. The Supreme Court in 2013 struck down the heart of the 1965 law, allowing nine states, mostly in the South, to change their voting laws without federal approval.

"Bull Connor may be gone. But today we witness with our own eyes police officers kneeling on the necks of Black Americans. George Wallace may be gone. But we can witness our federal government sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators," Obama said.

Conner was the commissioner of public safety in Birmingham, Ala., and in the 1960s directed the use of fire hoses and attack dogs on people demonstrating for civil rights. He's since become a symbol of that era's most racist leaders.

Carlson cut off the clip at that point with his own commentary, decrying Obama for comparing today's police officers to such a noxious historic figure.

"Bull Connor?" Carlson stated. "The country falling apart, riven by racial strife and tribalism, and one of the most respected people in the whole country decides to pour gasoline on that and compare the police to Bull Connor? As if America or Minneapolis is like Birmingham, Ala., in 1963? It's insane. It's reckless."

"Of course, Obama doesn't care. It's only about November and the coming election," Carlson said.

Protests and demonstrations in favor of reforming police and addressing racial equality broke out across the country after the death of Floyd, who was killed after a police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes as Floyd said he could not breath and asked for help.

The killing has been described as a modern-day lynching that evoked the worst episodes of the 1960s and before, and all of the officers involved face criminal charges, with one facing a second-degree murder charge.

Obama went on with his remarks to call for the passage of the new voting rights measure.

"Once we pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, we should keep marching," Obama said. "And if all this takes eliminating the filibuster - another Jim Crow relic - in order to secure the God-given rights of every American, then that's what we should do."

The filibuster is a procedural tool that effectively requires legislation to be approved by 60 votes. It was long used to block legislation in the civil rights era.

Carlson, whose head writer resigned last month after it was discovered he had posted racist and sexist material on an online forum, accused the former president of exploiting the funeral to throw around "stupid partisan talking points about Senate procedure."

"Imagine if some greasy politician showed up at your loved one's funeral and started throwing around stupid partisan talking points about Senate procedure. Can you imagine that?" Carlson asked.

What a pathetic, bow tie sissy. Obama wants to reform a little Jim Crow trash and he has screaming tantrum. What a racist.
"Bull Connor ?"

Yeah, I don't remember Bull Connor choking off someone's breathing with his knee until that person eventually died.
People are waking up to just how divisive a figure Obama is. He may as well be the next Al Sharpton. Do anything for a bit of division. His 'campaign rally' at Mr Lewis' funeral was a disgrace. Wasn't it enough to celebrate Mr Lewis' life? No. Not for Obama... He had to throw in everything political and stoke division. From his sadly predictable anti law enforcement rhetoric, to 2020 and the divisive issue of mail in voting. At a man's funeral. Using that platform to essentially give a political speech. Zero shame.
Heard part of this chancer could not stay as I did not like the theatrics was worried he would split a gut...........handshake
I don't recall Lewis' family objecting. Indeed, they seemed to appreciate it.
The man was a life-long activist for equal rights.
How odd, that Carlson, or you would object.
No so hidden agenda ?
In my comment replace "No" with... Not
Here's the entire eulogy ...

Judge For Y'all's Selves.

I've not watched it all, but it doesn't sound Too bad.
A pol drifting into politics at the funeral of a pol - Not terribly surprising.

Father-in-law was a state pol & I've had the opportunity to listen to addresses @ some such events.

What might seem in poor taste to non-pols is 2nd nature to Them - They can't control themselves if there's a microphone & they're facing a group of people.

FAR AND AWAY the most hideous example of a funeral turned political rally was the funeral of Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone.
It became SO blatant that then Guv Ventura walked out in disgust - And rightfully so.
IMO.

A pol eulogizing a pol - It is what it IS.
Barry could've sped it up. It was a dragged out snooze generator - It could be used for ASMR ... yawn

And Tucker Carlson, Rich, Spoiled, Bumbling Dufus, the butt of all jokes, literally at some point. Carlson is an example of how being on Fox news payroll stifles conservative criticism of the network. Prior to that he was one of Fox news fiercest critics. In 2003 before joining Fox as a contributor, Tucker Carlson called Fox news “a mean, sick group of people”, and The O'Reilly Factor a “shit” show hosted by “a thin-skinned blowhard” after the network posted his unlisted home phone number in retaliation for saying Fox's Washington bureau number on CNN as a joke. And now Fox news staffers privately rail against 'White Supremacist Crap' from Tucker Carlson and former "Tucker Carlson Tonight" head-writer Blake Neff, forced off Fox news last week following years of racist comments posted online under a pseudonyms.. doh

I would listen to Barack Obama read a telephone book before listening to more than a short news clip showing the idiocy of Trump, Carlson or any of the Morons on Fox.. smile

I am old enough to remember quite a few presidents... JFK, Carter, Ronald ~ Reagan, Bill Clinton , George Bush etc., and the cold war, the bay of pigs, The attack on Libya [Tripoli hospital where my sister was working when it happened] thanks to Margaret Thatcher and Bush, the killing of Sadaam Hussein who never did have chemical weapons, the Killing of Col. Gaddafi all due to gold, oil and Afghanistan and on and on....
I think of US presidents as I do a patchwork quilt, slightly more likeable but many were war mongers .
I won't be liked for this but it is truth. To revere anyone like Adolf Hitler was adored and every word believed is dangerous. It becomes a cult and as we know from the final solution, not thinking for oneself and believing everything a leader tells you is dangerous in the extreme.

I believe History repeated itself with Trump because it was a bad time and he promised to make 'America great again ' just as Adolf Hitler did and as you all know, Trump loves reading the speeches of Adolf Hitler.
Enough said.
"he promised to make 'America great again ' just as Adolf Hitler did and as you all know, Trump loves reading the speeches of Adolf Hitler. Enough said."

GG come on now - you're much better than to post divisive drivel like that...
I know public persona isn't necessarily the the most reliable guide, but Obama always struck me as a decent man, while what I've seen of Tucker Carlson has left me thinking, what an arse hole. So, Willy, I'm afraid, as always, we are not on the same page. sigh
Hi Chancer ~ I admire your writing a lot and as a blogger you are not an angry or aggressive person and put your point across well.
What part of what I said was Drivel.
I have read and Melania has said it too, that Donald likes to read Adolf Hitler's speeches.
I love reading about Adolf Hitler because if we don't forget the hold he had on intelligent and not so intelligent people, and in particular human beings who were so in awe of him they became entrenched in his evil and [Nazi s] committed atrocities because they believed in Adolf Hitler's final solution and that Jewish people were sub human.
This is not drivel Chancer, it is fact.
Hitler was aggressive, nasty but he had a way of promising Germany would be great, he would make it great again at a time of great poverty.

Don't you see the connection ? Don't you believe that he loves the speeches of Adolf Hitler? Both had similar backgrounds as kids and were/are narcissists.
GG,I recommend you brush up some on History!uh oh
Chancer ~ The Independent 1990 interviewed Donald Trump
He said that he loved Adolf Hitlers speeches and kept the book of same on his bedside locker. Not fake news, not Drivel.
Conrad ~ I never purported to be a historian and it is very obvious on CS that many are not only not historians either but some had whitewashed history books at school.
With regard Adolf Hitler, I have studied every book I could find and war books about him and his cohorts for various reasons, mostly the psychological , as he had such a hold over so many people.

With regard to Eastern politics I can remember when Baghdad was mercilessly bombed by the President of US and Maggie Thatcher and hospitals and other civilian hits , I took to the streets here in Dublin after that happened.
My sister married in to a very prominent family in Tripoli and you can't believe all you hear about the leaders that were taken out because they were evil.
Not when those very weapons were suppled by the US.
No GG, I don't see the connection. And if you're going to make wild assertions - it's usually a good idea to present actual evidence backing them up.

If you want a good modern comparison to what happened under Hitler, then perhaps look to China where it's estimated over a million ethnic Ughyurs are in concentration camps. Recent footage showed hundreds at a train station - bound, blindfolded and shaved, awaiting transportation. This is all happening right now - while people bloviate and obsess over whatever Trump said on a given day. It's time to wake up. We can't ignore what's before our eyes.

And as for America, it isn't Trump supporters rioting and destroying community. It's thugs, criminals and far left anarchists. And for some reason Democrats (Obama included) can't bring themselves to speak out against it. So responsible, huh? But actually unsurprising. They're aware that a fairly significant portion of they're voting base are engaging in the violence and destruction. They dare not upset them.

But by all means, don't pay any attention to any of that brutal reality. Saying 'Orange man bad' and making Nazi fantasies just gives you an easy 'out', does it not?
gg, I suspect Trump's admiration of Hitler, and others such as Putin, is more to do with how they managed to achieve total power. To be like them in that respect would be his dream come true. uh oh
Harbal ~ All politicians crave power, it is a dirty business and if you have empathy, conscience and you need to be very tough and able to lie.
This is only my personal experience and I have been accused of writing drivel today and also of not knowing my history.
But that is my humble opinion. Regarding Adolf Hitler, I agree, but T. is also a racist. Ok to hire immigrants for cheap labour when building. I also think he really does believe Putin admires him.
Chancer ~ thanks for reply. Firstly did you read my reply to you ~ Trump himself admitted he read Hitler's speeches and kept the Book of speeches on his bedside locker. See Independent 2009.

Regarding atrocities akin to Nazi s and worse in China you underestimate me somewhat. I do read good newspapers that are relatively reliable. It is horrific and in fact worse than Hitlers time because now we have internet and can reach people with this news.
What are Saudi doing ? richest country in the world in regard to plight of their fellow Muslims. They are not following their Quran. Yet don't mind allowing some rich Irish Criminal cartels stay . ?

I am not pro Hilary Clinton or her ilk. Not that stupid. I have a memory and I really dislike her on the basis of her history and hypocrisy.
Trump is somebody I gave a chance to. I go on facts, and am not easily fooled by fakenews or utubes. I honestly think the man is dangerous.
I hope it is ok to agree to disagree on the blogs.
I don't throw names at people but he is at the helm as is Putin and North Korea and I do worry about the state of Trumps mind. He has not been coherent and his being in bed with Putin worries me.
Chancer ~ Regarding the horrific Chinese Camps where muslims are living lives of hell. Even though the women are not allowed to have children and forced in to abortion [women are to increase and multiply according to Q'uran ]
Mohommed Al Salman [Prince of Saudi] has unbelievably has condoned it. Check it out.
Well GG without you linking the evidence (or story) it's really impossible for me to comment on it. However I suspect if Donald Trump had indeed been practicing Adolf Hitler speeches, we would somehow have heard about it (A LOT). Remember what we talked about re. fake news: treat every story you read with suspicion. There's a lot of people whose sole purpose is to lie and deceive. Demand evidence. Inspect the evidence. And in the absence of any, be extremely wary of what you're being told.
Especially on CS by the hard right and hard left propagandists.
Those who follow a more middle line are usually belittled by those with small knowledge and large ignorance.
Rizlared ~ I agree with what you wrote. I am not far right or far left. I am also not always 100% correct, and it takes time to read, to study.
I was the victim some years ago of fakenews and believed all I heard on TV news stations until I learnt they had agendas and were 'owned' ditto Newspapers.
I rarely make statements without having read a good history book [regarding Adolf Hitler for instance] and very few Newspapers now can be relied on . The Newspaper I quoted regarding Trumps adulation of Hitlers speeches tells alot about Trump and also is a good paper. The Independent.
My comment in reply to Chancer is that I am neither pro Democrats or Pro Trump. This is worrying. I have issues with both. I am being truthful.
I am not seeking people to like me here ~
I am aware my blog comments are lengthy. I am aware of concentration camps in China where Muslim women are forced to have abortions which is abhorrent to them and to their adherence to Qur'an.

I ask a question as to why Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi went to Bejing last February and had a meeting with the president Xi Jinping whilst visiting Pakistan and India. The meeting was regarding a Trade Deal and he, who funds our Mosques in Ireland and who would have been at Mecca yesterday for the big celebration actually defended what the Chinese were doing ? so I have little faith in all leaders, it is about world domination and power.
I also believe that Trump is in Putin's pocket and has been involved in some very shady arrangements with same. Just as Saudi prince lies to get the deal done as Iran are also doing big deals with China.
Chancer ~ Regarding Trumps love of Adolf Hitlers speeches, and keeping them on his bedside reading. Does this not tell you something. Independent [not Irish one obviously] February, haven't date but I am sure you can find it if you google. It was covered a lot at the time.
Melania confirmed it.
I am worried about Trump, who is going to take over US ?
Worried about China, about chemical warfare which I think is the new Nuclear. I think we may be already experiencing it. Russia have had virus s and spray guns used in UK [remember the bottle of Nina Ricci perfume brought over to UK ? a little over a year ago.

This is fact.
Have a nice Saturday. If you have some good reading material where you can convince me that Trump is the one. please mail me with refs. I just watch him on T.V. and that does not lie, he is incoherent, and rants and seems incapable of adult dialogue.
I'm not here GG to try and convince anyone as regards to anything. I just like to stick to facts. I abhor dishonesty and those who seek to deceive and sow division. If you can find me the story you're talking about - please do link it - but given the fact I never heard of such a thing, I'm inclined to think it is probably fake news - Trump once said he said he read some book(s) about Hitler and then some fake news merchant tried to spin it into him being a Nazi sympathiser pointing something like that. I will say though that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. There is a lot happening at the moment - and it's not coming from Trump - in regards to trying to change the definition of language (and even sex and gender itself - look at trans activism) and telling people what they can and can't say and what's considered acceptable speech to these would-be-tyrants narrows day by day. Also the practice of common enemy identity politics has been a theme throughout history. And many at this point are being taught to view Trump (and anyone who may support him) as the 'enemy' to which they must fight against. This is a DANGEROUS, DANGEROUS game. And one which we need to guard against. We can have our differences - political and otherwise - but when you start to look upon your fellow human beings as the 'enemy' then that is a hard place to come back from. It's important to remember the humanity of one another - to be willing to debate(and indeed differ on) issues, but never to forget our shared humanity. The demonisation really worries me. There's not enough meeting in the middle and debating ideas (even if some topics may be difficult to talk about), and there's far too much finger pointing and demonisation.
And now Fox news staffers privately rail against 'White Supremacist Crap' from Tucker Carlson and former "Tucker Carlson Tonight" head-writer Blake Neff, forced off Fox news last week following years of racist comments posted online under a pseudonyms..

If you wanna talk sleaze. Tucker's head writer was tops. barf
There are many similarities between Hitler and Trump that some just ignore, to do so just shows that person has a blinkered mind. I can’t help but wonder why?

Both Hitler and Trump attack the judiciary and rule of law. Trump has even used his position to ensure a judiciary that is heavily biased right.

Both Hitler and Trump attack the media. Trump has vilified the media so much almost no-one believes anything anymore.

Both men degrade anyone who disagrees with them. Hitler disagreed with his most senior Generals and it lost him WWI. Trump tries to suggest he knows far better than actual experts.

Both denigrate the immigrants. Hitler wanted to free Germany of Slavs, Gypsies and Jews. The day he was running for president Trump declared that people of colour were the cause of the nation’s ills. Both men made border closings the centrepiece of their campaigns.

Both demonise their political opponents — Hitler called his opponents parasites, criminals and leftist scum. Trump tweets much the same.

Hitler provided the masses with transistor radios that received only one channel, thus prohibiting people from receiving any outside influence. Trump’s daily tweets online and permits only one media network to be viewed by US military, which is Fox! Again I wonder why?

Neither was elected by the majority.

Trump enforced more executive Orders to ensure large corporations continued to have immense political power (Those that supported him) and receive a huge financial windfall to further undermine unions. Hitler despised the German labour movement and destroyed it by imprisoning their leaders. Trump has indicated many times he would like to jail people who accuse him of wrongdoing, as they did in the olden days.

So to say there is no similarity is just having a narrowminded opinion.
GG I generally find you to be fair minded and curious, but I think you're reading Trump all wrong....which is understandable given all the false information being published about him by/on leftwing sources. So here is what Snopes has to say about Trump and Hilter. Keep in mind that Snopes is considered leftwing by many and in no way would want to help provide cover for Trump.

Also I would say that Trump had a lot of constructions projects, some of which are huge in size, and there is simply no way he can be personally responsible to oversee the hiring of every person hired by sub-contractors, to make sure no illegals worked on any of the jobs. Just try and use your common sense to sort out some of the bs.
@ SYK, interesting last comment from your link. A link which has nothing to do with the point being made that Trump and Hitler share many similarities.
From your link:-
"Questions about what he read or didn’t read aside, we have yet to stumble upon a verifiable instance of Trump expressing respect or admiration for Adolf Hitler. What we did find is that people (including some close to him) have been insinuating that Trump has an affinity for Hitler for the better part of 30 years, which in and of itself is interesting."
soonyuleknow ~ thank you for the nice things you said. I am always thankful for information that is not biased and that is hard to get. There is so much hatred.
Thanks for giving that to me. I appreciate it and other bloggers here who have sent me reading material that is reliable.
OK, I am going to make one final comment regarding Trump. I do know it is a fact that he did send his good wishes to Ghislaine Maxwell.
I have also seen photos and video material showing him being very very friendly and whispering things to a laughing Epstein around some very attractive and nubile ladies. This is not false photography and he did send the well wishes.
Regarding what Book I would keep on my bedside locker. I keep some keep some Christian prayers, short, but uplifting. I realise there are Atheists and non believers here but I believe in God and I would not keep the little book here if I did not get solace and if I did not have a respect for the words written.
riz have you ever heard of Godwin's law ? You should familiarize yourself with it.
Biden's base aka Democrats burning bibles in front of the Portland courthouse Friday night. They burned American flags too, our woke SJW's must be so proud.
LaFonda
I wonder what Tucker Carlson and others will say about awful TRUMP.
My comment earlier today about the book I keep on my bedside locker was making the point, that be it a prayer book a Bible, a thriller or a Book about a particular leader. One does not keep something at the ready unless one has an amount of respect for the person who wrote the book or the contents of book itself. This is self explanatory but given it was about Trump and Adolf Hitler's speeches being on his bedside locker I was trying to make a point.

Hard to believe as you continue to deceive and sow division with your drivel. Beyond that are your fingers broken, or just can't figure out how to search something.. dunno

Donald Trump 'kept book of Adolf Hitler's speeches in his bedside cabinet'

In a 1990 interview, the billionaire businessman admitted to owning Nazi leader's 'Mein Kampf' but said he had would never read speeches

Donald Trump reportedly owned a copy of Adolf Hitler’s speeches and kept them in his bedside cabinet.

A 1990 Vanity Fair article about billionaire businessman stated that Mr Trump’s then wife Ivana, said her husband owned a copy of “My New Order” – a printed collection of the Nazi leader’s speeches.

Marie Brenner, the article’s author, wrote: “Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler's collected speeches, 'My New Order', which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed.

“Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler's speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.”

Asked by Ms Brenner about the claim and whether his cousin, John Walter, had given him the book, Mr Trump responded: “Who told you that?"

He went on to explain that it was "his friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he’s a Jew.”

Mr Davis told Vanity Fair: “I did give him a book about Hitler. But it was My New Order, Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I’m not Jewish.”

After the Gold Rush

September 1990 Marie Brenner

Donald Trump appears to take aspects of his German background seriously. John Walter works for the Trump Organization, and when he visits Donald in his office, Ivana told a friend, he clicks his heels and says, "Heil Hitler," possibly as a family joke.

Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler's collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler's speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

"Did your cousin John give you the Hitler speeches?" I asked Trump.

Trump hesitated. "Who told you that?"

"I don't remember," I said.

"Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he's a Jew." ("I did give him a book about Hitler," Marty Davis said. "But it was My New Order, Hitler's speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I'm not Jewish.")

@ chancer_returns... I will say though that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And if you're going to make wild assertions - it's usually a good idea to present actual evidence backing them up.. professor
Well, Willy, the evidence is rather strong. DevelopMENTALly, we find him in private schools as a kid. Now, I have family in Honolulu, and as a fully certified teacher, who once thought of living there, I did a little sniffing about as to schools. Forget the government schools, as in many other places.Teachers are nearly illiterate. And the private schools, with a few exceptions, would find competition with those in Alabama and Mississippi. But our boy got his free rides, starting in early school years.
So, dad is an African wannabee "diplomat". A rank America hating racist commie. Not at all close to the boy. Translation, it's not what you know, but whom you know, Nuff said, on professional posts in the Dark continent. Except that this form of affirmative action seemed to have had legs, generationally. As in US welfare families. The apple falls not far from the tree. A path is carved out.
So onward, after a stint at a liberal Californicate, very liberal, college, he get's into Columbia U. Part of the IVY League, but now chock full of minority students (Asians excepted) who make it in on skin color, not character, as a big let down to White womanizer/dissertation plagiarist, MLK. But not before throwing his White mom's mom, a loving granny, under the bus. "she's a typical white person".
Again, since we never got to see his grades nor admission test scores, he shuck and jives his way into Harvard Law School. Same with Law boards for the Bar. Prestigious schools, once upon a non racial preference time, but those days are long gone.
He then becomes a community organizer in corrupt Illinois. And sleazes his way into the Illinois State Senate, where he apparently holds the record for votes "as Present". Real committing style.
The Dems see him as our boy, (and why not?) and into the white house he boogies down. Accompanied by wifey Moochchelle, also an affirmative action HLS plant, who gets a job as director of "Diversity", at a Chicago medical center, on the coat tails of hubby, to the tune of 300 large yearly. Nice, except when she leaves, the post isn't refunded. Hmmmm.
There's much more, as in not paying lots of parking fines in Boston, UNTIL, he saw the White House in his sights. Scummy, VERY scummy.
A genuine Black leftie. A thorough Democrat. Now with a multi millions home on Nantucket.
Who could make any of this up ?..
@bohemianjack you mustn't have read the comment 9 posts above yours which asserts - via a left-leaning fact check site no less - that such claims were uncorroborated and as such were deemed to be false
