One of the greatest speeches I've ever heard, at a time when it is most needed

While there is still a hint of the stuttering issue that Biden used to have (to a greater extent),
it should be obvious, that there is no cognitive issues at all. That was an intentional misinterpretation.
Joe Biden is an experienced good public servant, who has care for fellow citizens and motivation to make things better on many fronts. He and his vice president are exactly who this country needs at this time
to unite and lead us out of the corrupt mess that the current lying "so-called" president has helped create. head banger

I just saw this on our lunchtime news. I have to say, having said I thought he had congnitive decline. It was like another person. He looked tanned, his eyes alert and immaculately turned out. His speech was articulate and of course his very pretty wife.

I am chopping and changing .... I did feel he did not seem to look so frail and seemed mentally strong. It was a good speech, as was Obama's .
I am reading and watching and for the first time reading books on the contenders, one paperback on my list in my local book shop is called 'How to like Obama ' Strange title but It's next on my list.
Deservedly great. As when the affirmative action last POTUS got the alt liberal, not so Nobel prize.
I second GG's message
I don't have a political view on American politics and I kept an open mind. While watching this speech by Biden I was aware of the eloquent rhetoric and political speak as used by candidates of all hues prior to elections. However this was not prominent in his speech. He held my attention. He is presidential and has lived politics and it shows. He has a tough job ahead, not only to guide the country through the difficult times ahead but he has to get the country and the people back on track. I think with an enormous effort it might be possible, but it will mean tight control and hard choices. Good wishes to him and his crew.
He read from a script (which he certainly didn't write). I'd say it was pre-recorded, to get the best "take". Hollywood production ideals, you see. But most people don't fall for that. And as for dementia, it's not an all day long thing, certainly not in the earlier stages of it. You have your bad periods and they tend to occur at the same time(s) of day. You work around it. Drugs can temporarily give you a "lift". But it's beyond any doubt that Joe Biden is suffering from cognitive impairment. The examples are too many at this stage. And that's WITH Biden having been largely hidden from public view. The talk is that his appearances will be extremely limited before the election. Doesn't inspire confidence.
d - thanks for your thoughts on this topic. Yes, it will take much effort to overcome the terrible situation the USA is currently in, thanks in large part to the corrupt current "so-called" president and his cronies.
However, this country has rebuilt from a Civil War, and a terrible depression. We CAN do it again with the right leadership. Clearly, that is not Trump.
There will be several. Also, do not miss the one between Mike Pence & Kamala Harris.
How will the rioting likely stop if Biden is elected, Jim? Please explain this to us. Since neither Biden nor any other leaders in the Democrat Party have come out against the rioters and indeed in many cases Democrat elected officials have FACILITATED the riots. The only reasonable explanation to your assertion would be that the Democrats are saying: "vote for us or we'll continue the riots!"

Doesn't sound like a sound election strategy.
Notice Biden blamed Trump for the China virus... AND NEVER EVEN MENTIONED CHINA?
Sure. I would be happy to explain it to everyone.
Riots happen because people feel there is no hope otherwise.
The people revolt in response to unfair treatment. That's the way it has always occurred in history.

With new leadership hope will be restored, especially when the election brings in people with more understanding, compassion, and a drive towards better equality.
You really didn't listen to the speech, did you ?

He did mention China and our current dependency on them for manufacturing.
Biden pledged to have manufacturing of Covid-19 supplies here in the USA instead of China
to reduce our dependency upon them.

A lot of the blame has to go on Trump. Trump ignored over 10 warnings about the impending pandemic, some of which came from his own staff. He then denied the virus's capability and misled people about both it's severity and longevity. He did not follow the pandemic response roadmap. Prior to this he laid off much of the pandemic response team. He broke the law, by giving irrational medical advice, as well as touting insane cures like injecting disinfectant. Rather than create a central supply chain, he left states on their own to bid against each other for supplies, creating price soaring and shortages. He has urged states to open back up far too soon, creating a huge second wave. And now he is urging schools to open up too soon, which is likely to create a 3rd wave. Yes, he IS to blame for one of the worst responses in the world. Over 170,000 American dead. All Trump voters and supporters have to share somewhat in that guilt. The rest of us KNEW something like this was likely.
All Trump cares about is him. He doesn't care about the average American. He should never be elected to ANY public office.
I'll hold off until the debates and there's a little more pressure put on Biden. It's one thing to read from a script and another to think on your feet. So we'll see - bring on the debates.
thumbs up kp!

Mic - Joe Biden has grown as a person a lot as an adult. Trump is still in his spoiled me first infancy.
The emphasis shouldn't be on the script, (refer to comments about Others wandering away from their script and the unexpected result).

Biden's speech reflects the sentiments of the party, so the VP and any potential successor to either of them would be following much the same agenda.
d - That's a very good comment. Naturally, there would be some different nuances, that would vary with the individual, but many of the main goals would be consistent.
Every person is an individual, who should be judged on their own actions.
George Wallace held onto his earlier beliefs while running for the presidency.
Joe has obviously changed his beliefs before he was selected and served as VP
under Obama.

George Wallace was never VP.
An argument can be made for "Voting The Party/Platform Rather Than The Candidate" and I know a LOT of folks IRL who are using that rationale this Election to vote for Ol' Joe.

That said -
The Individual holding the office of POTUS does count for Something & neither Joe nor Kamala are particularly good (Electable?) choices.
IMO.
Whether either of 'em is Better'n The Don depends on one's perception of The Don and/or His Policies/The 'Publican Platform.

I find it amazing that Trump supporters can only vilify and make BS malicious comments about Biden and
Ms Harris, rather than find fault in their political point of view.
When those who can only vilify and malign, use proven facts from unbiased sources, maybe, just maybe, their credibility will move from the negative area they are in right now.
Seeing how Trump is OFFICIALLY the worst president in US history and Pence adds little to the ticket, of course, Joe & Kamala are a far better choice. Trump was given a chance and he turned it into the worst presidency in US history. The country is far worse, than what Trump inherited. It's time to make a change for the better. It's time to give a person with life-long experience with bipartisan public service the helm.
Here You Go ...

Biden -

Ms. Harris -

I don't know anything about the man's politics, so I won't comment on that, but I have to say that he looks and sounds much more like a president than Trump (Donald John Trump) ever did.
It seems that Trump is well endorsed by his Party, so that in itself removes the second choice for me.
Therefore, in terms of Party or Candidate, there is only one choice, if we want to change things for the better.
Mic - you are delusional - I suggest you reduce your Psilocybin uptake. Your demi-god hero TRump is heading for defeat come Nov 3rd.
Next time watch the WHOLE speech fully awake, before making judgement.
But it doesn't work like that, does it?

A good orator can hold the audience's attention.

Trump can hold my attention for longer, admittedly for all the wrong reasons.
Obama tried to make those changes and ran into an obstructionist republican dominated Congress.
Nonetheless, for the terrific job he did, over 170 of the experts in the field of presidential history determined him to be the 8th best president the US has ever had. Those same experts (conservative & liberal), based on 50 different presidential criteria, voted Trump as the worst president in US history. Indeed, none of the judges (even conservative) voted Trump better than 3rd worst president in US history. So, you are welcome to have your uneducated opinion. We all are. But those people who actually not only know American history better than us, but indeed, are the experts in that field of study , collectively have judged both presidents in detail and found them to be at opposite ends of the spectrum with Trump being the worst ever.
He held my attention.
Regardless, I didn't state that Biden is an exceptional orator.
I said that the speech was one of the best I've heard.
If you aren't motivated to listen to it, read it.

It's clear, that you view things as black or white, rather than being able to understand things in a broader more encompassing way.
Except that Hillary had no intention of becoming a tyrant and the guy who slipped in despite having less than the popular vote is a tyrant wannabe. So, not so smart in practice. thumbs down
It's an antiquated system and needs to be either eliminate or at least replaced with a compromise of some sort.
Recall, that the last guy before Trump, who got in, losing the popular vote, was GWB.
That didn't work out well either.
Trump would be that idiot.. wave
