WASHINGTON — An envelope addressed to the White House contained a substance that federal investigators identified as the lethal substance ricin, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the inquiry.
It is unclear when the envelope was intercepted before it reached the White House mail room, but investigators believe that it was sent from Canada, according to the official.
Federal investigators are working to track down who sent it and determine whether other envelopes have been sent through the postal system.
Ricin, which is part of the waste produced when castor oil is made, has no known antidote.
The White House could not be immediately reached for comment.
In 2011, four Georgia men were arrested and later sentenced to prison for plotting to spread the toxin simultaneously in five American cities, targeting federal and state officials. That same year, American counterterrorism officials said they were increasingly tracking the possibility that Al Qaeda would use ricin in attacks against the United States.
Two years later, a Mississippi man sent letters containing ricin to President Barack Obama and a Republican senator in an attempt to frame a rival. The letters were intercepted at sorting facilities.
In 2014, Shannon Richardson, an actress, was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for mailing letters laced with ricin in May 2013 to multiple people, including Mr. Obama and Michael R. Bloomberg, the mayor of New York at the time.

We sure know it wasn't sent from Russia.
Could've been an election year False Flag ploy (though not necessarily of Russian origin) to make it appear that unhinged Antifa-type Lefties are out to get The Don.

AP sources: Woman accused of sending ricin letter arrested
By MICHAEL BALSAMO, ERIC TUCKER and COLLEEN LONG 2 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — A woman suspected of sending an envelope containing the poison ricin, which was addressed to White House, has been arrested at the New York-Canada border, three law enforcement officials told The Associated Press on Sunday.
The letter had been intercepted earlier this week before it reached the White House. The woman was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing near Buffalo and is expected to face federal charges, the officials said. Her name was not immediately released.
The letter addressed to the White House appeared to have originated in Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have said. It was intercepted at a government facility that screens mail addressed to the White House and President Donald Trump and a preliminary investigation indicated it tested positive for ricin, according to the officials.
The officials were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
There have been several prior instances in which U.S. officials have been targeted with ricin sent through the mail.
A Navy veteran was arrested in 2018 and confessed to sending envelopes to Trump and members of his administration that contained the substance from which ricin is derived. The letters were intercepted, and no one was hurt.
In 2014, a Mississippi man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after sending letters dusted with ricin to President Barack Obama and other officials.
This isn't something you buy from Amazon. So where does one get this chemical?
I'm only asking for a friend!
Seriously, if it's so deadly, the person making the letters is also at risk. duh...
I think it's super rare that any president would come in contact with their mail. It's handled by staff. No antidote... so is it fast reacting?
If so, mail room staff would start dropping like bugs and it would be a matter of minutes for detection. Slow reacting, it would be hours later when they are transported to ER with some unknown illness.
I've done biological research, where I used both ricin & abrin (even more toxic) to select cancer cells that were mutanigized and then were resistant to these toxins. They had altered cell surface receptors for the toxins.
I had to be VERY careful. A relatively small amount could wipe out a small city.
I'd rather not inform where they could be obtained.

One slip up and they could have been dead anyway. Naturally, that depends upon the concentration and total amount used. It is a foolish endeavor for many reasons including, that the president doesn't open the mail anyway.
Wow.....that toxin ricin should/could have reached the intended target.
