I grew up on N.Dakota/Minnesota flatlands (SO Think "Prairie Home Companion", y'all).
Ran away to sea @ age 19 and have ALWAYS lived On or Near (like a figurative or literal stone's throw) from Water That Goes Somewhere - That'd be the Sea, a River or a Great Lake.
Inland landlocked lakes do NOT count.
This May be genetic.
Ginger Daughter was raised "a stone's throw" from the Upper Mississippi River.
During a Summer of college she house-sat a beach house on an inland lake.
Her take after a few weeks there -
"If it's not an Ocean, River or Great Lakes, it's just a puddle."
She's currently raising my grandkids "a stone's throw" from Lake Michigan ...
