A diversion - Ulaanbaatar
A new student today, my first ever from Mongolia, a software developer for a Paypal-like product dealing in USD-AUD-MNT (Mongolian tögrög) first time I had come across the currency, USD$1=MNT2851. -30deg C, and there he was in a blue T-shirt. Ulaanbaatar has a population of 1.3m and severe pollution in winter, coal-heating being the culprit. Today the AQI was pm25 190-267, about twice as bad as Beijing, and a serious health risk.
Interesting to note the Australian connection, and that together with my software background would be the reason for his choice of me.
Ulaanbaatar has just gone into total shutdown - zero deaths sofar but they hit a peak of 38 cases per day this week. His children are at home for school.
