Shocking, I say, shocking....

...freaking out over this new smart Roku TV. Leaves cable in the dust. Short the stock, investors. But they even list things by cateGORY.
Love the films, and concerts, but these documentaries are my favorites. Watched one today by a French Production Co., On the various youth groups in the Third Reich. The indoctrination, xenophobia and regimentation was striking. Girls, for KKK (Kinder, Kueche, Kirche), and boys for soldiers, the most ambitious, for direct entry into the SS.
Kids had fun, and the groups had foreign collegial relationships. And lots of skills were taught. But a more para-pre military set up, I can't imagine. Makes the Red Guards and Komsomol look like cream puffs.
Apparently, all the athletics, marching and fresh air camping led to opposing forces to comment how out of shape they felt as ground troupes, even after basic training, by comparison.
Of course, we all know where it led Germany. But couldn't help but think, that rather than killers, perhaps there could have been more of a Vista or Peace Corps effort with all these well scrubbed enthusiastic kids.
Militarism for national defense has its place. But all this was scary. Question is, was it unique in the context of Germans, with the Dolchstosslegende and burdens of Versailles in the air? Khmer Rouge?
