Canned laughter...

Two generations of TV and I realized the shows I avoided all had fake laughter. It was real laughter... but prerecorded from some other (actually funny) source.
To hear 100 people roaring (for a split second) over something I didn't find funny 50 times a show turned me off.
TV shows like:
M.A.S.H. Gomer Pyle USMC, Hogans Heroes, The Beverly Hillbillies, were annoying to say the least. Let's put Seinfeld at the top of my avoidance list.
Cheers only had a few high moments.

If I had to vote, Taxi was pretty good at times.

All true & this is a good (Bad?) example ...
laugh
It's kinda silly, but I can't say I find it Overly annoying - I guess I've gotten so I ignore it.

I dont like those shows where the laughter has been 'inserted' either.
Its as though the producers want to prescribe to the viewer whats funny and whats not.
I didn't like the canned laughter either.
But, if the jokes/situations were funny, they were still funny.
Thus, I just ignored the canned laughter.
I was definitely a fan of Seinfeld, Barney Miller, Frazier and Cheers.
My uncle was a POW and I couldn't find humor in Hogans Heroes.
# 99 - A Guy'd have to be pretty Dim-Sighted NOT to remember it ... love

@miclee you thought 'Get Smart' was memorable? Well, need we say more? There used to be a show 'Leave it to Beaver' and my mind is likewise blank in this regard, apart from the title. As a teenager I fancied Shari Lewis and recall Annette Funicello! But as for their show content - nada!
It's just how laughter has evolved from a sense of relief, thank God we're not going to kill each other, into wishing that everybody around you was dead. Laughing yoga. Something that unnatural deserves to die.
The woman who played 'Agent 99' in Get Smart, Barbara Fenton, is still alive and still looks pretty good. This is her in 2015.

I hate canned laughter with a passion, it's condescending. Like we need to be told where the funny bit is... But in saying that, I do like Seinfeld, any one of that group could do quite well on their own.
