Being one of the world's littlest, big cheap guys....

...for TV, I use a Yagi UHF/VHF. FM antenna, with rotator, at tree top, and since the girls have been out on their own, don't have satellite or cable. So the kiddos talked me into getting a Roku stick, effectively turning this 10 year old flat screen TV, to a Mensa TV.
Easy to see why the cable/satellite TV companies are panicking, and sending out all sorts of mail special offers, if one signs up for several years, and contributes a pound of flesh. I'm SO impressed with this new technology in my life. Sure, the newest items such as first run movies can be had at a price. But all sorts of domestic and foreign offerings are free. The variety is large.
Mostly watch documentaries, and classic/foreign films. Just saw one by Werner Herzog on Russians living in the back woods of the Taiga, with near total self sufficiency, and few modern conveniences. Hunters, trappers and victory gardeners, during the two months of summer.
Gratitude, wisdom and perspective. The film is appropriately called, the Happy People of the Taiga.
And here I thought my lifestyles have always been mostly self sufficient. Worth viewing.

Daughter got a house that still had an original '60s vintage aerial antenna.
Before buying into a satellite deal, they hooked up the old antenna - just for giggles & to see what'd happen.
wow

I've no idea how many channels they pull outta thin air for Free, but it's More than enough to keep 'em satisfied with NO Bills ... grin

Good points, you two. Yep, I recall paying just under $80 for infomercials, the dreadful God squad, and lots of news/sports I never watched. I do miss the history channel, and some documentary outlets, but certainly not enough to pay. Plus, with cable, the slothful tendencies seemed to emerge, and I think I got less done. Now at least I'm learning something when I couch potato out. And I have much more to channel surf over---man cave compulsion syndrome. MCCSCS.
Also, most of my music is recorded, some from FM. radio. This antenna brings most stuff in good enough to please these old ears. Get's Canadian stations as well, usually at night. Different and often great TV-Radio. Eh?

..eYe did, however, discover this blast from the past
"Ye Fugitive"...starring Dave Jansen...a long running series of the 1960's.... not many Easter eggs...except to note...
The good doctor gets all his nutrition from Marlboro cigs. & Black coffee.
..he is always clean shaven...for sum reason has to get fingerprinted every 3rd episode...yet cops can never seem to hold onto him beyond 15 mins.
And whenever given the Op...he lectures on the danger of folk medicine and / or herbal remedies.
Without cable or dish, what are your sources and costs for internet access ?
