Another reason to avoid the dentist..

A personal friend made an appointment with an NYC dentist. She went to his Bronx office this week and was told to wait in her car. After awhile (about an hour) when she saw other patients leaving she again asked if they were ready for her and was told not yet. As she walked back to her car the Dental receptionist came out and snuck up behind her and with a letter opener or scissor began stabbing my friend in the back of the head. My friend suffered an immediate concussion and fell unconscious to the ground but the employee then knelt down and began stabbing my friend in the face and torso until bystanders approached. At that point the dental assistant fled the scene.

Here is the TV news story about the incident.

My friend is at home recovering after surgery and stapling of her wounds. I have photos that are too bloody for TV or here of the wounds. She has retained a personal injury lawyer. A felony warrant has been issued for the Dental employee who as of this writing remains a fugitive.

Dental visits are usually scary enough. Now we have a new fear. Homicidal dental assistants.

uh oh blues moping

Ken, what a shock about your close friend.
Ms.Torres is in my prayers.
sigh
Wow ! Perhaps the assistant was on too much prescription 'medicine' or other drugs. dunno
Front-desk-rage.. hope she will be locked up for a long time.
Jim, I suspect the same. I am also wondering if she had a criminal history, but the dentist in question will only provide information to the police through his lawyer. To me that implies he knew something but hired or retained her anyway. Possibly a relative? I don't know. My friend's lawyer is working on it. Took about malpractice..

conversing
Or a temp agency that sent her over.dunno
Med / Dental staffing is desperate here.
I gad that thought too. But until more information becomes available we can only wonder while thinking, WTF?
banana
The receptionist was both deeply psychotic and homicidal ( extremely rare) . Hope your friend recovers soon and gets help for the mental trauma.
I suspect she is developing a fear of going to the dentist. I know after that I would be.
Sounds like a version of the Kingsman movie where in the press of a button people start going crazy and killing.
It is off topic, but thinking about it, if there is one major thing I miss about NYC it would be the incredible diversity of food, In those apt buildings some of the food cooking odors make me salivate just remembering them. Foods I haven't seen in 30+ years. Good stuff too.
Maybe the dental assistant had been "provoked"?.......

rolling on the floor laughing
I hope your friend recovers quickly with quite an interesting story to tell from here on out. I can't imagine not being more afraid to go to a dentist now. That dental office should give her free dental for life. I hope she has a good AGGRESIVE lawyer.
Wow that was a terrible story.

I hope the victim is recovering from her injuries.
