I watch the news daily and my heart breaks at the despair of India's people.

So sad to see a country on it's knees.crying
"A country that is mired in poverty, but also has a space programme..."

I think perhaps most countries have dubious financial and ethical priorities.
@ jac

India has developed much over the years and it may well be a rich country but it's inhabited by poor people.

When you consider that it's population represents almost 18% of the World's population the mind boggles.sigh
A country that looks and smells like Victorian England, but also has a space programme. And a vaccine institute that tells the same story. Modi only cares about his rich foreign friends.
The population is divided by a 5 castes system.
The country is densely populated. That high density makes infection, and thus spread, much more probable.
Greetings ladys, I think the rest of the world
should help Indai,.

This pandemic must be stop soon.peace
Modi is a good friend of Nero.
The people of India need to take him down...very mad
Hope is for some medcal breakthrough with this virus. I beleave that the U.S pledged 1 billion doses by years end. Further studies suggest that two (us) vaxxs only last 6 months.Pfizer and Moderna have said they are working to update their vaccines, or possibly design a booster shot, in case they’re needed against variants.
How's This for boggling of mind -

Population of China, India & Pakistan ................ 2.981 Billion
Population of the Entire Western Hemisphere .. 1.023 Billion

Hi miclee

It beggars belief the possibility that India will take over from China as the most densely populated country within the next decade.
Yesterday that have started opening the shops sidewalk cafe slowly.
But we have tobe at home at 21:00 hours.
next month I CAN GET MY VACCIN. ,about time .

This new Indian varian is moving very fast.
I ask myslef why dont thay lock down the placeconfused
How bad is this new strain?
"The 'Indian strain' of the coronavirus carries higher transmissibility similar to the UK variant, but there is little evidence so far of it being more lethal than the original virus, experts have said."
- a google search.

Must be hard to shut a country like India down. Brasil is worse off atm it seems with about 10 to 1 higher death rate per capita as of today. This could change tomorrow, but right now Brasil is worse off.

Covid is bad everywhere it goes not saying otherwise, but still India is at 118th place when it comes to death rate per 1mill and 117th for cases pr. mill. citizens.

Is the border to Belgium closed? Death rate there is twice as yours Fly.
And 20 times higher than India.

With all that said, yes It will take some serious effort to stop the spread in India, we all know that.
Let's wish the best for that. Should we here far away fear it will sneak in here? No. that is silly as we are already flooded with the english variant.
I can correct myself a little bit though, so I don't use the statistics wrong:
TODAY Belgium and India is at the same level of death rate.
A lot of people living in poverty are dependent upon day to day employent to survive.

Unless a country has a welfare system, it can't realistically lock down a large proportion of its population.
A strain that causes more severe symptoms is less successful because people are more likely to die than they are to spread it. If it kills the host without spreading to another, that variant will die out quickly.

The successful variants are the ones which spread easily, but kill a lower percentage of its hosts.

The thing is, a variant that kills 90% of 10 people infected kills 9 people; a variant which spreads easily enough to infect 1,000 people, but only kills 2% leaves 20 dead.

The variants with higher transmissibility also cause more chaos with respect to healthcare and the economy. More people will die through a lack of resources, like food and medical care.

Higher transmissabilty and lower lethality is more alarming that lower transmissibility and higher lethality. It just seems less alarming because we think we will have a better chance of surviving the disease itself on an individual basis, without considering the wider implications.

For a densely populated country with a lot of poverty, a highly transmissable with lower lethality variant is an absolute disaster.
Sure Jac. Sure. I was for a long time certain Africa was gonna go down like kabooom. Luckily didn't happen yet. I'm also more worried bout India, had them in the corner of my right eye for some time.
BUT, it's a country of much brain power. There is some hope even they can somehow get this sorted,
I guess time will tell.
Which is no use if the leader deosn't enable that brain power, or even disables it.

Now where have I seen that before...?
The density thing is easy to understand mic, we all seen the trains.
Vaccine might be in time here but perhaps some UN must help. Starting with the cities.
By the way Sputink was just stopped in Brazil from what I could observe.
Hmmm, a wild guess in Tonyrefail maybe? dunno

loolling ya my sweet trumpie-not-fan heart wings

@Grand

The problem is the lack of oxygen which is vital for infected lungs ,and the Government have failed to respond to the crisis within a failing infrastructure.sigh

Sure Moth. I know there is a problem. I just want us to be sober.
I think norway has sent some respirators out of our country recently, dunnu to where.
it's heartbreaking, I stopped watching, news like this makes me feel teary and depressed.
Chances of getting the infection in the next 24 hrs. Not Vaccinated 1 in 45,000
One Vaccine 12 day's later 1 in 100,000
Two Vaccines 1 in 150,000

I'm not sure about dis info, I just read what was passed along from the UK daily report. If the info was true and credible then It's worth sharing. Sounds fair and doubt that a Doctor was out to mislead the less but informed.
:Here we only we ar maske when one must go inside. ,for myslef when I go to my dauthers I always stayout-side and dont stay too long.,

Could this is here for some time?
Mayhap we need to change our mind set aout this pandemic ?
Yes that sounds about right, wearing a mask would be advised. I think myself that till everyone signs off on this pandemic from the expert point view I'm all for social distancing. Not too sure when things will be back to normal. If you are not testing everyone daily how would you no that person or yourself was positive.
U r still here as well....
The U.S. govn't now has travel restrictions in place to and from India.

It's like a wave, New York, Mexico, South America, now India.
Covid Specialist Doctor in ICU says India is in a real apocalyse. So much for its just a fake flu.
Rap. you are right, Its very hard to look at what is
happening over there Its like a very bad dream.
thay need to lock down.
