Well that was a waste of time and money

Afghanistan close to falling to the Taliban now . US and UK , possibly Canadian troops going in to cover the removal of western civilians . Would not have mattered which president was running the US as the result would be the same , time frame would have been different . What follows is what Trump has said

Had our 2020 Presidential Election not been rigged, and if I were now President, the world would find that our withdrawal from Afghanistan would be a conditions-based withdrawal. I personally had discussions with top Taliban leaders whereby they understood what they are doing now would not have been acceptable. It would have been a much different and much more successful withdrawal, and the Taliban understood that better than anyone. What is going on now is not acceptable. It should have been done much better.

Better Trumps name is not involved with the military loss in Afghanistan . Pin should have been pulled the day Bin Laden was nailed . NZ lost a few troupies up there . Brother was there in 2001 , he got RTU'ed after calling someone a fat , useless lazy punt .

Half heartedness wins no wars .
Little left to do but surrender , his army has fled or changed sides .
Nothing ever good comes from the democrat party!
All the way back to Yalta, Communist and Radical Muslim victories have not come on the battlefield, but at serial unilateral surrenders whenever the Domestic Left gets into power.

They have the blood of millions on their hands, from the Russians repatriated to the USSR right after WWII, to China since 1949, the Bay of Pigs betrayal, Southeast Asia, Central America, Iran, Southern Africa, Serbia and so many other places.
Going to be a lot of westerners killed by the looks , takeover went too quickly to get out .
It will be gone within 2 weeks unless a whole bunch of Taliban leaders suddenly have strange accidents before then.

Lets hope Boris and company can come up with a solution thats even semi viable.
The pain and suffering that the Talibab will deal out to the public that have been sympathetic to the West is unthinkable.
Lost my respect fòr those that have decided to just withdraw unconditionally. The Taliban now has their hand on the thousands of tons of arms and ammunition that the USA left behind. Why didn't they destroy it as intel let them know that they were fighting a losing battle.
God help the abandoned civilians.
Americans armed the Taliban in 1980 to defeat the Russians there who were doing more or less the same thing. 'What goes around comes around'? USA also boycotted 1980 Olympics, did they not? Futility sought and achieved.

Its now 5000 troops going there . Just who will be guarding the airport when the last plane leaves , could be some short straws draw for this mission . If there are 20,000 security contractors there its hard to see how they will be getting out . The woman's got it on the clip while the MP is dancing on a pin the ignorant prat .
All i can say is that Biden and his advisers have blood on their hands. Individual Afghan soldiers, units and even whole divisions have surrendered - handing the Taliban even more vehicles and military hardware for their lightning advance.thumbs down
Not going to happen, Boris has no stomach for war, He is too weak a leader, he has done a fair job with Brexit and Covid, up against a wall, but I can't see him getting involved with an unwinnable war in Afghanistan.
As well as communication equipment and computer resources beyond anything they had even dreamed of. As you say, tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and everything else too. Before this even began I warned the Bush Administration that if we do this (invade Afghanistan) we needed to look at the lessons provided by the Romans in what became England, Boudica and all that, and not even consider invading if weren't willing to sit in that country for at least 50 years until the last person who remembered once seeing a Taliban was dead of old age. Of course this didn't fit in with ChenyHaliburton plans and the result was the DoJ contract I was advising on was terminated. Sometimes I hate being right.
No comment on above but you might get a pleasant surprise.
Meant for Rizla^^
If Russia couldn't beat the Taliban, I can't see any other country doing better. Not like Russia stick to the Geneva convention or usual rules of war.
I think Boris's concern is more to try and prevent a slaughter of innocent women and children in the near future. . I definitely didn't mean he was going to take on the Taliban by himself.
@rob Well England was ignominiously defeated in the 1840s in Afghanistan, and this continues till today, doesn't it. Interventions in Afghanistan do not reward the intervener or the country itself. We can only hope the Taliban have learnt something but it seems improbable.. Did Russia 'invade' Afghanistan? Well hardly, they went to support a new communist government, so no surprise USA opposed it. But they did indeed reap the payback.

CIA / MI6 .. creature feature cut out.
Me instead of calling Biden or Boris or others that were they they meant to make the place safe and strong. Train soldiers etc not stay there until end of time. It did not work the afghan government did not keep their part of bargain they just left the hand outs and help from other nations, where of course many lives lost of soldiers. Time had come to an end quickly or slowly the end would have been as now.

The Afghan soldiers did not have enough back up from their own government.

I feel for all concerned but that wont help them will it. blues

Several other warships in the fleet accompanying it are also affected.

HMS Queen Elizabeth is about a quarter of the way through a 28-week deployment leading the Carrier Strike Group (CSG).

It has now entered the Indian Ocean, and the Royal Navy says it is due to continue on its voyage to Japan later this year.

So china recognizers the new Taliban government , well thats a surprise , who would have thought that ? Just enough border with china to truck in the influence , mighty dollar never bought the Afghans so we'll see if the yuan does . Afghans seem to delight in being poor , ignorant and free doubtful if the chinese will change that considering how they treat muslims .

Even as battle raged across Afghanistan last week, Pakistan's Gwadar Port, now operated by a Chinese company, continued to ship fertilizers to the landlocked country, the Global Times learned.

Located in Pakistan's southwest province of Balochistan, Gwadar Port is a key project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Since its operation, the port has begun to play a new role as an efficient transit stop and time-saving trade port for land-locked Afghanistan. It shipments of fertilizer started in January 2020.

According to Chinese experts, China could play a role in post-war reconstruction and development of Afghanistan, pushing forward projects under the BRI and providing investment when safety and stability are restored in the country.

Afghanistan has become the first landlocked Central Asian country to benefit from using the Gwadar Port for transshipment trade. In 2020, the country imported 43,000 tons of fertilizers through the port contributing to its agricultural development.
Since 2001, the US has spent $2.26 trillion in Afghanistan, the Costs of War Project at Brown University calculates. The biggest chunk – nearly $1 trillion – was consumed by the Overseas Contingency Operations budget for the Department of Defense. The second biggest line item – $530bn – is the estimated interest payments on the money the US government borrowed to fund the war.

Yet for all those trillions, Afghanistan still has one of the smallest formal economies on the planet. Last year, President Ashraf Ghani said 90 percent of the population was living on less than $2 a day.
However to my mind most of the 2.26 trillion got paid into American sponsored enterprises and flowed start back to uncle Sam...

United States President Joe Biden’s administration announced on Monday that it has approved the largest permanent increase to food stamp benefits – a boost that the White House and proponents of the move hope will help low-income families afford healthier food choices when stocking their fridges and pantries.

Starting in October, average benefits for food stamps — officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP — will increase more than 25 percent above pre-pandemic levels.

Some 42 million people in the US – about one in eight — currently receive SNAP benefits.

They are not living on less than $2 per day no no

The average monthly per-person benefits for qualified recipients will rise by $36, from $121 to $157, according to government figures that's around $5.30 per day
