Farm September

Corn is at dough stage, beans just starting to turn yellow. New batches of kittens...sigh.. Hay is all in. Neighbor brought it in 25 bale loads. Beautiful hay. 40 pound bales or more and only $2 a bale. He always gives me a break. Maybe cause he gets paid right away. And is a friend.
I decided enough with plastic sheeting. Costs me $120 for 20x100. Lasts 3 years and shatters all over. Stupid idiots in environmental brigades. Plastic doesnt rot. So lets make it so UV rots it. Yep. Now farmers have to buy new every few years. And chase bits all over. Then toss in trash so it gets buried OUT of the sun so it never rots. Anyway..I paid the $24 a sheet for corrugated polycarb clear. Made removable panels for the back of the pergola. And a hinged door. I can take them down in summer. Of course Pa Kettle syndrome will hit and yep..ought to do that one of these days.
Woodshed is half full. Winter is supposed to come early and be snowier, colder and polar vortex. NOOOOO!!! blues scold I know winters are easier than when I grew up. But, with old age, seem longer and harder.
I lost my black ewe. No idea why. Hard to tell with sheep. They like to die just because they want to. She was sick one day, down the next and then got pneumonia and dead.Bad part is there are no vets anymore that do farm animals. Just pets. My guy was here so helped drag her out before he left. Tenants son helped me dig a grave and bury her. I swear this hill is a mass grave yard. Have to keep track of empty ground for next graves. Some day a paleontologist will do a dig and wonder WT?confused Hey, its a farm. I feel like I have dug a 100 or more graves in my life. Glad I live on sand. My usual idea is I could go dig a hole in the Sahara and either hit a boulder or tree root! The barnyard is clear of them. But, running out of room.
Two more possums shot. Hen still sitting but question if they will hatch. Too late in the year anyway. Poor chicks run around in cold temps in their BVDs!doh
Tenant was asking where the black walnut trees are. Uh..EVERYWHERE! I went in my "park/lawn" and gathered a bag. Put them in the barn. Have fun! They are tasty. Only issue is get the black husk off..wear gloves or be dyed for days. Then crack. I told him a hydraulic press works. Or put them on train tracks and let train run over them. I never tried that method. Afraid the walnuts would derail the train.laugh See if he wants more.roll eyes

First time I've used plastic wrapped bales , the large ones 500 - 600 kg's . Don't know if the plastic is biodegradable , they have to be used in a year so its not to bad if they are . My grass used to start growing first of September week or so either side , not now . Just starting and hardly enough to keep up . Those that scream global warming need to try and feed livestock over a lifetime to see just whats happening . Conventional bales like yours are selling @ $10 or so , they are cheap this year because of the wet spring last year . Last year the winter would not let up either , worse the year before that . Large baleage squares @ $ 85 up to 100 . Couple of wild bulls have come out of the scrub , they hung back for awhile . Not now though , come with the cows or over the fences to be fed . Sold their souls for a bite of hay . I grabbed ones tail and hung on as he swung around , blinded by the tractor lights he missed me flying past for the tractor . Tricky fellas the wild ones , wouldn't be a year that somebodys gota do a runner .
Typos..mumbling
I give up on the blue tarps. They are just as much junk as plastic. Only good to them is the Baltimore orioles think those strings are the greatest fibers to weave their nests. It is funny..man's pollution is seen by critters has found goodies sometimes. I find bird nests with pieces of plastic bags, strings, tarp strings, aluminum foil and whatever. The amazing thing is how birds build nests. The chick hatches out of an egg in its nest. It grows up and flies off. The next spring it builds a perfect nest of fibers, grasses, weeds, mud, twigs or what ever is its species requirement. No lessons, no patterns, no instructions. I can take a bird nest, try to duplicate it and create..a MESS!
I am trying to feed kittens and tame them. Indigo moved hers out of the hay and no idea where they are. So will be so wild cant touch! I have batches all tangled up. Fortunately when nursing time comes, the ma's feed whomever is in the pile. I have one that has hair like a hedgehog. And bent ear tips like some vampire bat. Be neat if it lasts but know it wont. 3 have disappeared below and no idea where those are. And I swear Squiggles is PG. What!? Winter is almost here and you decide to breed?!!
Here is a fave recipe. Late husband told me this form. I am not a chili fan. But, this one I like.
TEXAS CHILI:
Dice up two pounds of meat..roast of some kind. Beef, venison..(can use hamburger)
Brown the meat in frying pan til cooked. Add one pkg of Texas Red Chili seasoning. If you dont use the Texas Red kind, it will be different. Mom added more chili powder when I brought it to her. I dont like hot chili. Texas Red packets give flavor without burn.
Stir til all the meat is seasoned. then combine in one can of tomato paste. Then add one can of tomato soup. Add the can of stewed tomatos. Add a can of seasoned tomato sauce. then one can of kidney beans. Or skip the beans if you dislike. My brother in law said he didnt want june bugs in his chili!laugh doh sigh
I just finished a wooden 2D owl. Joined 3 pieces of wood, cut into owl outline. Added eyes feather surround of round wood pieces, painted eyes in them. Added wing shapes glued on. And beak, eyebrows and feet. Now did a row up middle with five petal flowers I hot glued on. The centers are flat round beads and the petals are glued pistachio shell halves. I glued a turkey barred wing feather to each wing too.
No place to put it, but..oh well..MUST CREATE!
Stir it thoroughly and then simmer til the meat is tender, stir occasionally.
I cast a concrete skull. Put cardboard rolled to make a hole in center. Painted it, glues bits of bear hairs on, stuck it on the fence metal pipe by flowerbed. Thinking of hanging a sign. last guy who trespassed.laugh frustrated
Joe and I went to Dollar Tree. I dont know if writing a crab letter to them did any good, but there was a ton of stuff new. I got two skull and crossbones, 3 water globes, some flowers, 3 pair of MOSSY OAK thermal socks! Found some off my list.
I need to get sewing. I want to make a wimple for the Renaissance fair coming up the 9-10th. They are advertising so it is for sure. They are at Circus World Museum, in the grounds. I want to wear an N96 mask. Figure if I make a silk wimple and change it a bit, I can pull the neck part up to hide the mask and look in medieval style. I bought a silk saree used, off ebay. 5 yards of silk for $10 at auction. It will be thin enough should be able to fit my crown over it. I do Queen Elizabeth the 1st at the beginning of her reign.
Enough blabbing..Hope everyone is having a great weekend of the last warm weather.teddybear

South Dakota is not alone, least eight states, 10 universities and more than 130 cities across 34 states now observe Indigenous Peoples Day as an alternative to the federally recognized Columbus Day.
Trump named November Native American history month.

Have fun and hope you take pics of your costumes and decorations. It was chilly this morning after the rain and leaves are on the ground everywhere.
Fall Morning..hug
Birds nest in tractors when not in my roof . My sons employer had her new tractor catch fire week ago , 50 hours on the meter . Tractor was clear of nests in the morning , stopped for lunch and starlings had taken up residence by late afternoon , enough material to burn wires through . Being very wet spring here , puddles everywhere , she was able to get the fire out . A large rat has taken up residence in my roof , nailed one starling few nights back , bit of squawking and lots of flapping till it was dead . Détente , rat lives while it serves .
