The Black Dot

This is a little story of wisdom....

One day, a professor entered his classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They all waited anxiously at their desks for the exam to begin.
The professor handed out the exams with the text facing down, as usual. Once he handed them all out, he asked the students to turn over the papers.

To everyone’s surprise, there were no questions – just a black dot in the centre of the paper. The professor, seeing the expression on everyone’s faces, told them the following:

“I want you to write about what you see there.”
The students, confused, got started on the inexplicable task.

At the end of the class, the professor took all the exams and started reading each one of them out loud in front of all the students. All of them, with no exception, defined the black dot, trying to explain its position in the centre of the sheet.

After all the papers had been read, the classroom silent, the professor started to explain:

“I’m not going to grade you on this, I just wanted to give you something to think about.
No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot – and the same thing happens in our lives.

However, we insist on focusing only on the black dot – the health issues that bother us, the lack of money, the complicated relationship with a family member, the disappointment with a friend.

The dark spots are very small when compared to everything we have in our lives, but they are the ones that pollute our minds.

Take the eyes away from the black dots in your lives. Enjoy each one of your blessings, each moment that life gives you. Be happy and live a life filled with love and happiness.

Sorry, but I forgot to change the settings.

There is a white dot somewhere in the abyss of a new dark age. A light shining through somehow. But we are marked for death and don't forget it. We are victims of a lawless system that cannot keep up with technological advance. Presiding over that which we know nothing about i.e. the world of 2021, a monstrous tyranny equipped with infinite data and zero understanding.
You made some good points CC.

This year 2021 will certainly be written in the history books for our kids and grandkids to read.

"Infinite data and zero understanding " hmmm...
I myself see the black dot as a red herring.
It is there to distract you from the outside world.

Hmmm...something else comes to mind...
Are we being distracted from something else?

Dan, your innate ability to deliver plenty of Insight is uncanny.
Thank you wine wave
Thanks OF.
My "insight", unfortunately, is not often welcomed, here on the blogs, or misinterpreted.

But, luckily, in the "real" world, it is very positive.

what's the old saying...you only see what you want to see and i would add...some are trained to wear blinkerswow
Hi Dani
I've always lived without sweating the small stuff.

If you take a sheet of paper put a black dot on it anywhere, hold it with both hands at arms length in the air. Now looking at it, slowly moving it around and the dot will vanish due to a small blind spot we all have in our periph vision. That same principal applies to your idea here. I trust you are well. hug wine
Lee..you're right about the blinkers.
People only see what they want to see!

What about standing back and looking at the big picture?
Hi Ben wave

I was wondering about you too, my friend?
Waiting to read your poem you were working on?

About the dot and the way you describe it, you are right. Interesting observation.

P.s. you've got mail!
