New Normal...Old Normal.

It's taken a year and seven months but we here finally seem to be back to normal, not a new normal just the old normal, all be it with masks in shops and public transport etc, in "normal" every 10 weeks or so some of us locally gather for a party, this came about after the 3 bars in the village closed some years back and a couple from the UK, who own a holiday home here, missed meeting up in the bar as part of their regular holidays here, so they decided to hold a party at their house on a Sunday during their stay, until yesterday the last time this happened was in early summer of last year, it was during the lull between waves where travel restrictions were lifted for a while, however it was only us Brits willing to take a chance at that time and the Spanish contingent declined, so it was a fairly small affair. Yesterday we all met together for the first time since March 2020.

A lot of our region reached level zero this week, that's an end of all local restrictions, mask law being national, our part of the region is due to get to level zero this week, Covid only formed a small part of the conversation yesterday, being our first chance to catch up on what's happened during the last year and a half, nobody there was in any doubt what made the return to normal possible, vaccination, nobody had heard of anyone they knew dying from being vaccinated though we all knew someone who'd died from Covid, one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to look at the data graph for Spain and see where the vaccine effect kicked in, Spain has now vaccinated 90% of all available adults.

Nobody knows what the future holds, but so far nobody here has become magnetic, we all still had the same number of arms and legs, though after a few drinks some still seem unable to use them, so no change there doh laugh , nobody is showing any signs of becoming a crocodile, and those vaccinated very early in the UK have zero ill effects from having vaccine, most I spoke to, like me, had zero effects from having the vaccine though I have heard some people feel unwell for a few days afterwards.

So for now, here at least, Covid seems to be a closed book.

Same here. Closed book, open society.
Only we got a ghost in the machine, but best overlook it some.
I do agree with this opening. Now it's up to each and everyone to take precautions.
Only so much a gov should do.

wine
...... and one have to be vaccinated to realise it wine
-sad thing though, people don`t seam to be able to think for themselves. Even if the restrictions has gone, covid hasn`t.
But in time we learn to live with it, as with every thing else life throw at us... me thinks.

Good to see you allive, Z-man! cheers
Bloody, quite so, if we hadn't all been vaccinated the party wouldn't have happened so I wouldn't have been able to say that wine
Viking, well I suppose I don't see it that way, ok yes the virus will be around till they find a total cure maybe, but for me I'm not going to be living with it any more on a daily basis, we can largely go back to the way things were, all be it with a few precautions cheers
I don't think normal is controversial enough for those who think they're living in a film. We just have to take comfort from the fact that they do nothing. Not even a semblance of human feeling when apparently your loved ones have just been given a death sentence. I know Pfizer are immune from legal action but they'll never be immune to a brick smashing into their face, or being set on fire. Imagine how it would be if they behaved like they're telling the truth.
Witchy, not sure who you're referring to confused I see Ireland has reached over 90% vaccinated, is there some problem?
Good job by Spain. thumbs up
I wish there wasn't so many nutcases living in the USA. sigh
Perhaps part of the difference is also that the Russians
probably did not focus a misinformation campaign on Spain.
Whatever the differences, one can't take away the accomplishment Spain has achieved. applause
Congrats & enjoy a more normal situation.
Chesney, perhaps you could elaborate on your comments about Pfizer, I'm now aware of any problems with them, indeed many here had their vaccine and consider it the best alternative.
cryptorchid, I take it that comment was aimed at Jim, but I'll stick in my two pennyworth anyway laugh

Over the years I've been here we've seen increased Russian activity spreading dis-information I think you'd agree? Would be odd if they weren't taking advantage of the current situation don't you think?
what are their methods? i don't do FB, i don't watch TV, only '80's slasher movies on youtube, don't hang out with people, only get bills in the mail, and don't read news papers. how are these Russians communicating with me? are there messages in my box of tea?
Jim, yes there was a fair amount of resistance in the end to lockdowns here, especially when it was clear they didn't halt the virus as expected, but in general the population seemed quite happy to have the vaccine and I haven't as yet met any dissenters here.
c - Believe it or not, everything is not about you.

Regardless, how did you get so misled by Q ?
Clearly, you are not immune to misinformation campaigns,
as you might want to mislead others into believing.
cryptorchid, I thought for a moment there you were going to say you don't read blogs rolling on the floor laughing

Imo it isn't only the Russians, most large organisations seem to have teams spreading their message on the net and in media in one shape or form, it has a way of filtering down, one just has to read the blogs to see that.
Jim, like i said, i don't participate online except '80's slasher films and CS. but, you are hellbent in your opinion so no point peeling your eyelids back
That's terrific z. thumbs up
By 90%, does that mean 90% of the adults, or is that the entire population including children ?
We are only beginning to get children vaccinated against Covid-19.
They can be a reservoir of the virus and rapidly spread it to others.
Jim, no that's adults, child jabs haven't yet been approved here far as I know, I'll look into that later.
c - you are participating online right now, which indicates, that you don't understand.
However, you did not indicate how you got SO mislead by Q.
Z, i have my own eyes and am able to see. i also trust my gut and use my natural instincts. if i'm cold do i need someone to tell me to turn on the heat?
Fu Q Jim rolling on the floor laughing
z - it was natural to focus on the most vulnerable first, the elderly and those with pre-existing maladies.
However, with the Delta variant they are witnessing a much higher rate of children getting sick from the virus.
i never said i don't read the blogs. how else would i have such a low opinion of you?
cryptorchid, well quite which was the reason for this blog, I used my eyes and ears and natural instinct to look at what's happening around me, nobody is dying in the streets, the hospital is operating normally and carrying out routine work, restrictions have been lifted and life is pretty much back to what it was, you're entitled to believe what you like but we here saw how hard this virus can hit, the only plausible explanation of how we came out of it is the vaccine, we don't use horse medicine here. By all means carry on your crusade with your comrades here, it's just that it's starting to look pretty silly from where I sit wine
i'm not knocking the vaccine. i'm happy you've achieved normal. the folks who were ready to accept the "new normal" is what concerns me
J, i'm pretty sure i see you how you are
Jim, well yes, we got Delta quite early, and no doubt why we still have masks in public places, but there hasn't been massive infections in schools so I would think the general feeling is that with most vaccinated and children unlikely to be badly affected we've basically covered all the ground you can with current technology, therefore time to become more relaxed about it.
cryptorchid, I was pretty careful in the OP, it's not a new "Normal", it's very much the old normal far as I can see, well almost, there are still some here wearing a mask whilst driving their car alone...... you can't please everybody laugh
people wearing masks in cars are the ones who concern me
crypt...maybe they want to become Chineseuh oh
CW. With due respect you feel how you feel, no worries. Respect.

But,
the vaccine is not a vaccine, it's there to help you overcome if infected.
I came down with a cold two days ago. Got scared at once being the hypocondri I
happen to be. My second thought was "glad I'm vaxxed,
I'll probably survive now if it's covid in my system"

Tested, proved negative.

Yes, it's all we've got this socalled vaccine. It's just a help.
Just to remind you Z.
Our spanish PM has a lot of charisma and plenty of BS.
He lies to everybody and only the gullible "think" they understand him, when the Spaniards can see right through him.

He keeps changing his mind from one day to the next.

When we were all locked down, he and his team were going away on their private jets to some destination...
And.. NONE of them are vaxxed!!

And Btw.. 90% vaxxed???? scold
They wish!!

@Orchid...she's right!
I agree with her.
thumbs up
I meant to add re our PM..he has plenty of charisma and no cojones!!!
He's just a puppet on a string.
thanks, Dan bouquet
Hi Z long time no see wave

Last year I played on one of your blogs when we were in lockdown with the Alpha strain..This time around I have been in lockdown since the 26th of June because of the Delta strain..On the 11th of October there is some kind of freedom for those of us vaccinated..I haven't seen family or friends since June..This lockdown has been a zillion times worse than last years lockdown

They say when it comes to freedom again we must all look at it like we're all bound to get the virus..Those of us vaccinated have a lesser chance of being in hospital and possibly on life support..I listened to my health official s here..Governments as you know take advice form their health officials reason why rules are implemented as far as lockdown is concerned whether we like those rules or not.

When I was growing up my parents had rules in place..I also had rules in place for my son as he was growing up..Imagine the bloody world if we all did what we wanted to do.

We have a Covid pill arriving here so when you have the early symptoms you take this pill twice a day which shows to be very affective..From the first of November we can purchase our own covid testing package from the Chemist..

Anyway sorry for my novel..get out there and live life to the max & good seeing you again laugh
That's ok sweetie.
I also rely on my instincts..
And common sense, and not in the media.

At the moment, in Spain, all the focus has been on the volcano for the last 2 weeks.
The Covid seems to be a thing of the past...
No more contagious...no more deaths! ....so they say!!!

Wait another couple of months..
grin
I am aware of all that Ozzie but either you are missing my point or I've done a dreadful job explaining myself again ... old habits die hard eh" says you roll eyes

Sunday morning my son tested positive with covid, he is not vaccinated against it....
would you pity him less if he died as a result of not having the jab?
Last week one of my daughters was reconsidering and rang her doctor about getting the vaccine and because she's undergoing some medical tests at the moment her doctor advised her not to until all tests have been carried out.... so until they are and forever how long that might take, she CANNOT take her little boy to the movies, to the zoo to his weekend treat in Mc Donald's etc & etc ... do you think it right/fair she and the likes are treated this way?

If you believe because it helps, its right/fair to treat people less worthy of another then I'm just glad its not you who decides the next organ donated.
Dan, charisma, is that the right word for someone who can stand there talking for over an hour and say exactly nothing doh so we agree there.

On your other points, not sure how you can say none of his mob are vaccinated when quite a few (politicians) have been prosecuted for jumping the queue in the early days dunno

The 90% is easy to verify, all you need to do is ask everyone you meet and see if it's 90% plus, at the party I mentioned in the OP far as I know it was 100%, certainly everyone I spoke to was keen to stress they'd been jabbed.

"Wait another couple of months" , what a cheerful soul you've become rolling on the floor laughing Ok so nobody knows what the future holds but even having a break due to the vaccine is worthwhile is it not? Or would you sooner we were in lockdown?
Merc wave

As to whether we'll all get it eventually surely that largely depends on whether the vaccine does cut down on the time the infected are infectious and also whether it stops mutations, will be a few months I think before we can say with any certainty dunno wine
Well I haven't lived as I should live since the 26th of June..I'm not going to waste my time on worrying about it all...All I know is I'm getting out there Z wave
Merc, go for it banana laugh
