Rice Pudding

I haven’t had home made rice pudding since I was a child, but that’s about to change. I have got one in the oven as I write. My excitement is growing as tangibly as the skin that is forming on the surface of my pudding. I just wish I had a pair of short trousers to wear when I eat it; that would really add the authentic touch to my trip back in time to those carefree childhood days.

They say that real men don’t eat rice pudding. Well I say be damned with being a real man, and give me the pudding.

I’ll report back later, providing I am not served other deserts in the meantime.

"If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?" - Pink Floyd
With or without raisins? I find adding raisins makes it less disgusting.
No, not a raisin will you find in my pudding. I have included a little less sugar than the recipe instructed, and have added some nutmeg, which wasn't in the recipe at all. To be honest, I am appalled at your suggesting that I put raisins in it. Have you no sense of decency?
What about raisins, or sultanas soaked in rum? Delicious!.

Hiya Herbie. Welcome back. hug
Nice stories!

Btw..I like crackpots and tunnels.wink teddybear
No, my pudding must be pure and simple. professor

Hello, Dani. wave
@harbottle wave

Any home baked rice pudding should have nutmeg sprinkled on the top. We used to fight over who had the skin off the top when my Gran baked one.

Enjoyhug

Hello, Fargo. wave
That's interesting, crypto, and even more so if you are speaking in euphemisms. hmmm
Cold rice pudding with a little cinnamon sprinkled on top is the best dessert ever.
I tried making it a few years ago and it was a mess. I couldn't get the rice grains to soften. I also followed the recipe and it said a special kind of milk and cream as well, you mix all together in a saucepan and then put it in the oven. The milk and cream didn't mix properly either.

Did you mix them well over a low heat and then put them in the oven or put them in the oven cold? (from now on we'll call you Gordon Ramsey)laugh
I prefer nutmeg to cinnamon, rizla. Only because of the taste; no other reason. smile
I just put everything into a pyrex dish, gave it a stir, and then straight into the oven, cold. I used ordinary milk.

Well I'm sure it won't be long before I do need something else to call myself, and that's as good as anything. Just wait until my current name has expired, though. wink
Did you use Pudding rice (short grain rice)?
Yes, Pedro, I used short grain pudding rice. It seemed like the best choice for making pudding. smile
There was Harbal, little schoolboy shorts around his ankles. Recreating the scene from American pie with his rice pudding
You are just making yourself look silly now, Traolach. roll eyes

snooty
Thanks for that Harb, looks like I may have over done it when I tried it. I'd like to make a successful one as the only decent on you can buy in the shops is too expensive.
The ones you can buy ready made are far too sweet for my taste, snowlynx, and that's the only reason I bothered to make one myself. Just keep it simple and do what it says on the packet of rice, and there isn't really anything that can go wrong. thumbs up
Harbottle, the information on the type of rice was for another poster, not you.
When I cook Harb there is always something that can go wrong!
Sorry, Pedro, I will go shooting my mouth off before I read things properly. uh oh
I know what you mean, snowlynx. smile
is rice pudding a fancy tapioca?
@ Crypto
T

Tapioca is the starch extracted from the cassava root, not a rice.
TM, never had rice pudding but, being American, i try to imagine what it must be like. is it more like Crème Brûlée?
i really like flan thumbs up
Imagine a non-savoury risotto, and you are getting into the "ball park" as you strange folk over the water would say. I know you were asking TM, but I feel she wouldn't mind my interferring.
tbh, i like butterscotch. no other pudding rates.
@ Crypto

Creme Brulee is a custard based dessert not made from cereals.

Tapioca was a School pudding here in the U.K. which most kids hated and it was nick named frog spawn.grin
@ crypto

Just for you Butterscotch sauce on ice cream hug
