Would you accept a gene-edited pig heart in your body to survive?

To survive? If it's between living and dying.

When I read the story about a man getting a heart transplant from a pig it made me incredibly hopeful.sigh

Rather be dead...
wine
Really?.....that sounds a bit strange.
Anything that human kind touches often times turns out a mess..

So rather than risk to be dead when i was promised extended life, well better be dead right away than risk in the short run..

cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers
I would... What's the big deal? Every time I eat a pork chop it's ingested into my body. So what's the difference really?
U have ur point of view..

I have mine...

is that simple to understand i suppose?
Or its difficult to understand?

dunno dunno dunno dunno dunno
Disgusting! barf
Camp
referring to the man who just had this procedure done,, well yes.

He was offered the chance to try the pig heart. His son said, the alternative was death, and his father wants to keep living. He took the chance. So far, It’s working. How it works in the long term remains to be seen, but they are hoping the genetically modified pigs hearts could become a viable solution for transplant patients in the future.wine wave
Yes, in fact, I'm having a pig roast to celebrate….

You're invited!dunno sigh

Hey Dan
Happy Valentines to youheart1 wine
A strange choice!
There is a viable solution but that solution is sitting on ISS space station.
The only 3D printed that can print any body part with a sample of human DNA..

The Only 1 World Wide..
How about we make another?
How about we use it to do some actual good?

Rather than let is sit on a space station..
very mad very mad very mad very mad
Why not dunno anything is possible nowadays laugh
It's not if we are being rational dunno wine
Hello Iza..thanks And you too.

No Valentine for me...
And no animals' organs in me either scold
You never know he's just sitting beside youhug wine
Why not?

Depends how old I am. If I need it now, then yes I'd go for it. But if I'm 75 I think not if I'm that far gone.wave
Hey Ysa, i had a random lady trying to give me money because she thought i was from heart foundation..
I explain to her i'm not that guy (i was talking to the heart foundation guy) this is your man here, then she started to explain to us that she was getting a heart valve transplant and the valve was coming from a pig, the heart foundation guy was disgusted and was giving her some strange looks..

I don't think i would be that desperate to take any transplant organ from animal or human, just except what your condition is and live with it i say.. Don't be afraid to change your life up a bit for your condition..

Agreed....

Ken
I would agree with you with that
Knowing that rejection would be a major effect meaning the recipient’s body attacks the new organ like an infection, is the greatest practical obstacle to xenotransplantation and that I wouldn't advice such.

Hey Butch
Of course it's always you has the last say.
It would be the best nor your worst decision you'll ever made.

Not only would I refuse an animals heart but i would also refuse a human's heart .

Its not about some weird religious dogma or some form of revolt against medicine or science ,Its just that i have accepted the fact ,i will die ,ta da ... why bother with some heart transplantation
As I look back with cases I handled till @ present with CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting) and Liver transplant, it's somewhat science can extend our life
“I think we’re getting closer, in terms of science,” . “But I’m not yet convinced we’ve surpassed all the critical issues that are ahead of Xenotransplantation. dunno conversing
Dedo
In cases of patients who has underlying cases of heart, liver or kidney
Doctors need to explain the pros and cons
before doing the procedure and the need of the patient to have it but as YOU are saying
it's your choice that counts.
handshake thanks for your opinion wine
Wouldn't worry me one minute having a pigs heart , one from a mongrel dog or anything else for that matter . Just don't give me some slobs brain .
killing another sentient being is stupidity why is explained in Lam Rimsigh
thumbs up

Biggest worry would probably be the eventual jumping of viral diseases from the donor-Animal to the Human recipient!
thumbs up cheers
LamRim tell me about it wine cheers
All post operative patient will pass through this stage In 2016, they reported that pig hearts could remain healthy for more than 2 years when transplanted into a baboon's abdomen, and have since done transplants into baboons' chests, where the hearts sustain life.wine handshake
I feel the same for sure. Not against it but i accept death its part of life teddybear
Thanks Ex
That makes the two of us hug
I wasn't planning on dying anytime soon, so yes. It'd be going to a good home.
Hello Ysa,

A great question. My instincts would say yes, I would accept it. It is life's duty to survive and if that is the only option available....what can one do?

wave
I have a good friend who has a pigs heart. He seems to have no problems. The only way to tell is from the scar from the surgery. His blood pressure runs a little higher then normal. Never caused a problem that I could see.
