China warns of ‘worst consequences’

Beijing says nothing will stand in the way of “national reunification” with Taipei

China has warned that no foreign powers or militaries will succeed in interfering with Taiwan, cautioning that any country attempting to offer military support to Taipei will face “consequences.”

“The Taiwan question is a purely internal affair of China,” Defense Ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Tan Kefei told reporters on Friday.

“No one and no force can stop” Beijing from a “complete national reunification” with Taiwan, Tan said, adding that anyone who tries to do so, “will suffer the worst consequences in the end.”

Tan said the Chinese military stood ready to thwart any outside interference on the matter. His statement came days after Australia’s defense minister, Peter Dutton, argued that it would be “inconceivable” for Canberra not to join with the US should Washington decide to defend Taiwan.

This warning has a familiar ring to it.
And more tragedy on the Ukraine front:
An air strike on Ukrainian military training facilities in the early hours of Sunday has resulted in the liquidation of “up to 180 foreign mercenaries,” the Russian Ministry of Defense has announced.

The strike, conducted with use of “high-precision long-range weapons,” targeted “the training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” in the village of Starichi and at Yavoriv polygon.
Everyone's itching for a fight, the west could be biting off a bit more than they can chew if they go China/Taiwan.. then it be all on..
America already made it clear that they would not fight for Taiwan. No EU country will either.
China and Taiwan are locked in trade. Taiwan's economy is so good that China can't risk damaging it, otherwise it would not hold any benefit to China except for a military base and the additional maritime boundaries.
Once again good point, as the west has planned this war between the Ukrainian people and Russia since 2014. All nato has to do now is sit back and observe the carnage. That's the reason weapons are freely available even to the public in Ukraine. Just think of the outcry if the UK or even Australia were to do the same.
Yet it gets condoned in the Ukraine.
The world is blind.
Think you will find that America and Japan are conducting naval exercise near Taiwan off Japanese claimed Islands
The World is as mad as a cut snake...

China is stalling and that's not good. I hear the Air-force buzzing by this early hour we never have any air traffic other than the local port. Midnight till around 7am no traffic. Where ever it went It was getting some tang heading east.
Japan launches joint maritime drills with US
Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) launched three-week-long joint amphibious military drills with US troops stationed in Okinawa on Sunday. It stated that the exercise was aimed at deterring potential “aggression” from “competitors.”

Its Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade is to participate alongside the US’ 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported. The exercise, which marks the first large-scale drill in the Indo-Pacific involving both units, will run through March 25, according to Marine Corps Captain Nicole Gallegos.
Commanding officer Colonel Michael Nakonieczny praised the forces as “two of the best trained and most prepared crisis response” units in the so-called ‘first island chain’. He said the primary purpose of the exercise was to “deter competitor and adversary aggression.”

The ‘first island chain’ refers to a chain of archipelagos encompassing Japan, Taiwan, the northern Philippines, Borneo, and the Kuril and Ryukyu Islands in the southwest to Russia’s Sakhalin Island and Kamchatka Peninsula in the northeast. The term has been used both by China and the US in their relevant foreign policy and military strategies.

The Senkaku islands – an uninhabited group northeast of Taiwan, in the East China Sea – also fall within that chain. The isles are currently administered by Japan but are considered by Beijing to be disputed territory.

Russia reveals exact amount of reserves frozen by West
The country’s finance minister confirmed that nearly $300 billion of Russia’s forex holdings have been seized
“We have a total amount of reserves of about $640 billion, about $300 billion of reserves are now in a state in which we cannot use them,” he said in an interview with state TV channel Rossiya 1 on Sunday.

The minister added that the Western allies were putting pressure on China to limit trade relations with Russia to obstruct the Kremlin’s access to national reserves held in Chinese yuan.

Russia drops gold tax to encourage savers to dump dollars

Bank of Russia resumes gold buying amid sanctions Russia keeps all of its gold holdings at home.
The price of gold jumped following the launch of the military operation in Ukraine last month, surging to $1,962 on February 24, up more than 6% for the month. Gold was trading at $2,000.30 per ounce
Russia had more than 2,000 tons of gold at the end of January, data from the International Monetary Fund shows. This accounts for just over 20% of the country’s reserves and makes Russia the fifth-biggest sovereign gold owner globally.

Ankara and Moscow can use the “dollar, euro, ruble, gold and yuan in trade,” Erdogan said in an hour-long telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, according to the TV channel.
Mutual trade between Russia and China in the first two months of 2022 increased by 38.5% year-on-year, according to statistics released on Monday by China’s customs administration.

Trade turnover in January-February reached $26.43 billion.

Russian exports to China jumped by 35.8% over the period to $13.8 billion, while Russia imported $12.6 billion worth of goods and services from China, an annual growth of 41.5%.

Last year, Russian-Chinese trade peaked at a record high of over $148.8 billion, up 35.8% compared to 2020

So Zelensky should surrender ? After 19 days of non stop fighting on the streets and Aid agencies from Ireland and UNICEF giving out [trying to ] aid and clothing ? Give up to Putin and lose an independent life, of free speech, and submit to martial law from a madman ?
Ontheroadagain May I ask you politely would you like this done in Austria ?

It will take us all out and it would take a MAD MAN to do it. We have that scenario right now and not one of those 'protectors' are coming to aid UKRAIANE ~ step stop Moldova help

They have been refused planning permission to build a huge building with underground areas and vast

That is why it has been turned down. We are a strategically placed Neutral country but our next stop to the left [West of Ireland] is USsad flower
I don't think anybody wants to destroy Taiwan due to the advanced economy. PPP per capita almost three times that of China and greater than the UK.
US did promise full support, stopping short of getting involved in the fighting. They have since been careful to muddy the waters on this stance, rightly so. And have displayed their intention to defend against any military interference by China. Their defence agreement with Taiwan differs from that with Ukraine, which probably does allow military action.
Not quite so. The US does not even have an official policy on Taiwan. Last time China threatened, the US dispatched 2 aircraft carrier and tried to make us believe that China got scared and retreated. It hardly was the case really. Hardly.

China did retreat but not because they got scared. It's just cause they're not ready yet. There's a significant difference.

Here's a prophecy: if Russia make it relatively well with the sanctions imposed on it, China will snap at Taiwan within a decade.
A kind of Mexican Standoff in Taiwan. Best to keep it thus surely.
USA bet on the wrong side back in 1940s. They chose to support a losing corrupt GMD. But that's the bed they chose to lie in - 30+ years of dictatorship under Jiang Jieshi.

Maintaining the stalemate is yhe optimal approach, but far from permanent.
Three Gorges Dam!professor
If you want to see a sample of china's determination and patience look at how they are going after a tiny country with a population of 1 million. Eswatini.
There are two parallel topics going on here, I thought it was going to be about Taiwan. dunno
The main topic is the underlying threat of nuclear warfare. I think that if Russia is nuked China will undoubtedly retaliate in Russia's defence. The civilian population, apparently many of them, see Putin as a very fair man that has helped China in many ways.
Merlot ~ I was just answering a question and somebodies opinion of my Politics and I apologise for messing the blog up. Am going out soon. I am sure you are aware China and Ireland are doing fantastic business together , with horse breeding, the wear and throw away clothing industry and so many things made in china. I don't think China will shoot themselves in the foot. They are an industrious people and I see them being the major player in the world .
With regards Zelensky waving the white flag. Does this not set a precedent ? make it easy for Putin to then take over the surrounding countries of Russia to alleviate any worries about EU and NATO.

I don't purport to have the answers but joking aside, seriously , Putin is unhinged, He is acting like a PAriah and won't stop. IF he gets away with Ukraine what next ?

Putin will not advance beyond Ukraine.
ontheroadagin ~ The reason I think he will is, I have seen a leaked filming of The guy who governs Belarus showing with a map where Mr. Putin intends to take over after Ukraine and the countries are all bordering Russia. HAving said that I am beginning to wonder can you believe everything you read and see online .
This invasion should never have happened in the first place. For years Putin was seeking surety as to the pre determined conditions. Nato the big 'boss' ignored all on that subject. Maybe Trump would've listened. He is a business man after all and knows the importance of an agreement like this.
Ukraine used to have nuclear weapons which were given up , you ignore there are already nato states as close to Moscow that could just as easy have nukes placed in them but don't .
All depends on past and present agreements between parties and if they are still in place, broken or still upheld.
If the Starlink system was completed at this time Nato would have stopped Putin - at a price.

Just my opinion.
OTH,Europe had to live with Russian Missiles and Nuclear Weapons on its Doorsteps since the late 1940s!
Butcher ~ Ireland does a great deal of business with china too. More and more each year.

Imports from China are huge and we of course export to them and our relations have improved with them
as we are now teaching them to train horses to become Racing Horses as this is something we have a good name for, our Horses, and we also [just saying ] have a good relationship with Saudi regarding our horses but that is where It ends I feel.
If it were Trump, I think he would be more vocal and what Putin calls 'manly ' It has been said he smells fear and yes, I think Biden is not up for the job.

Warnings are hollow when there have been many from U.S. and no response. Surely some next move, there won't be a Nuclear War, that is bluff. Unless Putin has lost the plot.

Am praying that Putin has seen he underestimated the temerity and loyalty to their country of the Ukranians and their spirit. It is time for talks and hopefully a deal will be struck. I hope so.sad flower
Nato and its allies have good intelligence sources throughout the world and with China backing Russia has made the absolute correct decision not to get involved.

Here is a link to Nation Defence Magazine the top Podcast is very interesting. Many of the other podcasts are good too.

Im not denying that fact what im trying to get through is that Nato has not kept its word when all the peace negotiations took place. Im also saying that it would not be in any way fair to start a 3rd WW. 14000 people died from 2014, due to Nato expansion, but those deaths were not even mentioned. I maintain that with Russia's back to the wall we should apply constraint and make the correct wise decision. That is my reasoning Millions of people can die and the infrastructure of Europe and other countries can be wiped out just because of no constraint etc.
Hopefully VOLODYMYR ZELENSKY will man up today and surrender .....
the more and longer this goes on, the more I dislike and despise the man thumbs down
JMO wine
I could not agree more. All the deaths that is and has occurred is his fault.
Between September 2014 and February 2015, Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany signed several iterations of the so-called Minsk agreements, which eventually stopped the forward movement of troops and reduced fighting significantly. But the agreements were never implemented, and the fighting has transformed into a trench war, with roughly 75,000 troops facing off along a 420-km-long front line cutting through densely populated areas.

But the mayor of Kyiv is exempt from that.
He is not subject to orders from NATO.

Sadly you are no gentleman and are a no it all and as for the other person jabbing. No comment. IT's sad really. I was on here to discuss Ukraine. It is a subject I do know something about.
