Yes, you assumed right!
You say we have a choice. How can we avoid the rebirth process that you mentioned?
However, we also need to make that choice when we are still alive.
We need to raise our frequency (that's another topic) high enough in order to travel "light" and see beyond the lies we've been fed since birth, our beliefs...etc.
Then, only then, will we be given the choice on passing.
We don't need to come back here either and go through the whole rebirth process.
We have a choice!

We just have to work on all our issues, from no 1 to 4
To bring each one of them to a higher frequency.
In other words ...
Look after our body, weight, a meatless diet as meat lowers our frequency.
Watch our feelings (anger and fear being the lowest frequency!)
Watch our thoughts...they are very powerful!
As for no 4, the subconscious, or cellular memories, we need to erase all the sin &karma beliefs, religious beliefs, soul contracts that are still holding us down in this dimension, as well as etheric attachments.
Those are done in a state of hypnosis. Can be done with self hypnosis.
It is not a 5mn job!
It can take months, or even years, depending on the amount of work?
And, of course, living in the present is very important!
