I think the horse is walking away, based upon the angle of the rider's foot. If it was walking towards me, then I don't think I'd be see the foot, from that angle.
Also the dog is behind but not directly in the way of the horse's rear hooves.

When I first looked at it, it appeared that it was walking toward me, but after looking at it some more, it was walking away. Pretty cool! thumbs up

The horse is walking away with a dog at its heels yapping 'F Off, you stole my oats'

I think I would need at least two frame (snapshots in time) to be able to tell exactly and that assume that the horse does not change direction. The horse may always be faking it in either direction, so really, just from a (single) pic, one cannae say. dunno

I think this directional perception is more about whether the one looking at this illusion is either stuck in the past or forward looking as was my choice.
