April! Bidding April farewellWelcoming May Nothing much going on for Art and I in the month of May except there’d be another potluck get together for my Malaysian friends and their respective spouses here in Omaha.
Celebrated my 49th birthday in mid April. My son took us out for a nice lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. Art and I didn’t really want him to spend too much of his money ( he’s still in college ) so he and I decided to share a slice of cheesecake after our meal. Was looking at the choices of cheesecake on the menu and I exclaimed in Cantonese ( so that my son’s girlfriend and Art would not understand )
Me : Aiyo ( that’s ‘OMG’ for us Malaysian ) $19 for a slice of cheesecake?!? That’s daylight robbery!
My son : Mami, that’s the page number la!
Me :
That’s the birthday gal right there!
Beginning of this week, we went to the Beautiful Bulldog Contest at Drake University, Iowa. Art have had 2 English bulldogs before. Molly, his beloved bulldog died in 2017, after almost 9 years together. Art had her ever since she was a 6 week-old pup. His daughter gave Molly to him and just like Art, she loves English bulldogs too.
A few of the 30 contestants
And the winner is….*drumroll* BamBam!!!!
Went to the Drake Bulldog Shop in the university campus to get a book for Art’s daughter and guess who we bumped into?!? The author himself!!
And he was so kind as to write a word or two on the book for Art’s daughter and son-in-law.
Even the hotel room we stayed just opposite of the university, had a picture of a bulldog!
The following day, off we went to Pella, a small Dutch town about 45mins drive from Des Moines.
Too many bakeries and chocolatiers around!
Them Dutch letters were yummy!
Out of curiosity, I asked one of the chocolate shop owners of Dutch descent, if he ever visited The Netherlands and he answered, “No and have no interest to do so”. I was like
I was thinking to myself, “Even I have had been there!”
Goodies to bring home to Omaha!
