Some things I’ve learnt along the way…(pt. 1)
Over the last 20-30 years or so, I’ve had some ‘eye-opening/mind-changing’ revelations about myself and my life. Some of those revelations are about my relationship with myself, with my immediate family, with ‘ex’ friends and with an ‘ex’ husband – and are very personal. Others were revealed to me through observations, mistakes and other challenges that I experienced along the way.
One of the things I've learnt during my brief ‘sojourn’ on the island of St. Kitts (whilst married), was that even though most cultural practices within the Caribbean can be similar, there are also many differences (e.g speech/language use, foods, social activities, etc). This led me to constantly compare them with my own island’s, as being either better or worse, but, through the not-so-subtle hinting of a very wise older woman, I eventually realized that –
• “Different” doesn’t always mean worse (or better), so differences need to be accepted, just as they are. Be respectful.
Another thing I've learnt resulted from the Covid pandemic, and the ‘rush’ to be vaccinated. The mandate for citizens to be vaccinated had many of my work colleagues convinced that it was vital to their, and their family’s and students’ health, as well as their job security. One of them remarked to me that ‘she had prayed about it, and that she believed that God gave the Scientists the ability to create the vaccines, so they must be safe’. I told her that even if that was so, it didn’t mean that SHE should be vaccinated. She still got vaccinated and had several worrying side effects that caused her to be hospitalized (for a brief period), but I do believe that her body will never be free of Covid. So,
• Not because something was designed/made by a Scientist means that it works perfectly, is safe and you should use it. Be wise.

I had all my 3, my roomate had hers too. A few weeks ago she had covid (we never tested it but it was obvious). She was ok again after 3 or 4 days. But it struck like a lightning and her comment was" I understand how people can die from this".
Me I went clear.

Not talking about getting through the shots (I felt nothing, she too).
Talking about how the shots maybe helped us to a degree faced with the virus.
But that seems to be the case then based on what you tell us here.
There has been none (yes I know it's hard to believe) pressure around here to have the shots.
Nothing. You keep your job everything is cool. That been the melody here.
There was even talks in the beginning to just let the disease go it's natural course,
and spread uncontrollably like they did in Sweden.
That strategy was abandoned eventually.
This is a very liberal country you see.
All in all that is a a pretty good thing, 95% of the time.
It's only when they go too far politically correct for an agenda,
a specific one designed to destroy their political opponent it goes wrong.
But on covid I had no complaints. Gov here done what they could.
Been also very transparent.
I took my shots (after a round with myself)
in solidarity with the health employees who would have to deal with me if I got ill
and hospitalized. I decided I could not show up there crying for help
after having refused what they first had to offer.
