Not true at all
Hereditary has nothing to do with catching the disease from a family member either
Hello Merc,

That is what I always believed too. It was just something that activated my thoughts when I heard somebody say it might be possible.

I heard that too some virus can start a particular cancer off dunno
Johnny Sparton ~ I did not mean to upset you but I have never believed ignorance is bliss.
Excessive Smartphone use and what I am now on Laptop emits rays, now you would have to be on the thing all day, which many are. I shove this under the sofa when the sun is out and try and forget it. I even turn my phone off when I dont want calls if out walking or cycling.

You seem healthy so have a check up every 6 months and eat good clean food. cheers
CS MODS ~ Can you please tell me why the letters RIP were taken away from directly after my mother and father. This is disrespectful to me. In my country and others too, we put RIP [rest in peace ] when we discuss somebody who is now dead, in this case it is emotional as my parents did not rear me but are still my parents. I would like to know why you find the need to delete ?
"About 5 to 10 percent of cancers are thought to be hereditary. In these cases, an individual inherits a copy of a growth control gene with a mutation from one parent, and a working copy of the same gene from the other parent."

From Google. It's hereditary but very low percentage of chances.
Hepatitis c causes liver cancer

Es psi-barr virus causes cancer Bur kills lymphoma

Helicobacter virus causes cancer

When inflammation in the body is high virus can get in and change DNA giving cause to some cancers/

Sorry cannot tell you more as i cannot spell all the stuff to explain.
But yes virus can cause some cancers
Thank you all for your extensive and very informative comments. I see there is a bit of a variation in opinion/personal facts shared...but pretty much all uniform.

I am still not 100% convinced that it cannot be caught from another because I like to leave room within myself for an open mind and also I believe it is next to impossible for us humans to know for certain things of this nature.

HPV is an interesting subject though. So in this regard, the potential for cancer can be transferred from one to another. Perhaps our science has yet to discover other ways. dunno

Again....thank you all very much....it is appreciated.

Thank you EXred, for the additional ways of transferring cancer through viruses. It is interesting that a virus can create cancer. uh oh
GG....also interesting about the potential of stress and having a broken heart. There really seems to be something behind a broken heart....it is a saying I have heard before numerous times about somebody dying from a broken heart.
Good morning to you as well SR....even thought it is the next morning. :) Thank you for your data from Google. thumbs up
Tiger....thank you for your position on the genetically aspect of cancer. You are right about cancer being common...and it seems to me that it is getting even more common.
Welcome Johnny. wave
