Growing up in South Florida, I was exposed to lots of Caribbean music and steelpan instruments were adopted by many different countries.
wave Hi Chat, yes, and Japan did a wonderful job of refining and replicating it's various sound onto it's electrical keyboard systems.

Locally, we've created an electronic version called the E-pan.
