My personal casino experiences.
I want to start out by saying I am not a scientist, not an expert, and I have not done any studies on any casinos so this is just based off of my personal experience of attending them/it.My local casino here is the one I attend the most. At one time, I would go up to 3 times a week. I am not a big spender there, just bet minimum on the machines...basically, just going out to have some fun...not looking to get rich or get broke. I have been in that place over 1000 times...I know many of its employees. My father and I go there...he is getting old and worked his a** off all his life, I think he deserves a little fun and entertainment. They have free music there on the weekend, main event concerts, and great food. For this little tiny neck of the woods, it is a monster sized establishment. It still amazes me every time I go there that they can sustain a business of this size in this small of an area. People travel from all over to attend it. They have a water park and 2 or 3 (I think now) golf courses....it really is a treat for us locals.
Oh...they have their own gas station, huge several hundred room hotel, and pot selling place too. Well, I have quit smoking pot for some years, but the locals tell me that their weed is amazing.
Now, I say, it really is a treat for us locals. Of course what I mean by that is with some moderation on your spending there. Afterall, it is a casino...not an ATM. They were not able to build such a huge facility because they are not making money...and employ hundreds of people.
What I have noticed...mostly...is on the machines, they will give you wins here and there. Mostly these wins are just enough to keep you playing, not to go home with a smile on your face to make you feel like you really won. Those types of win, from my experience, are very few and far between. I just go there with $100. Most of the times in my past I would lose it all. But now, recently, I have become a little more disciplined in my gambling. Now, I might walk out with $20 to $40 instead of losing it all. I am just out to enjoy myself and be out with my dad for a couple of hours...so if I get that, I am okay, even if I lose all of the $100. However, if I am not greedy and I am okay with turning my $100 into $120, in other words take a $20 bill...that is more likely to do than to turn my $100 into $200.
So....don't be greedy at casinos, in my opinion....sometimes take the $20.
I know....I am a small time gambler, but that is how I can afford to go out with my father and have fun as frequently as I do. There are gamblers in there that I think are insane. I once seen a person betting $25 per spin. I wondered to myself, just actually how much of a win would it take to send them home with a slight smile on their face? But...there are those out there that are insanely rich too.

I'm retired just like your dad and worked hard and yes, now I just spend my time to have some fun.
Enjoy Johnny.

I'd have fun betting, sit outside on a sunny warm day, eat and drink, buy the Daily Racing Form, pay for parking and entrance fee. If I came out even...
