An American hero of the 20th century

Discussing similes today we traced 'pie in the sky' to lyrics of a song by Joe Hill. That jogged a memory of Paul Robeson 1960 singing to the workers on the early Sydney Opera House site. One of the songs he sang a capella, waving away the Sydney flies, was "Joe Hill", also known as "I Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill Last Night"
For me Paul Robeson stands as a man of the century. Activist, supporter of the wobblies and indigenous people, of civil rights; singer, lawyer, intellectual, actor and all-american athlete. Hounded by the CIA through the McCarthy era.
