Making plans for the USA!

Now that my ticket is booked, I need to start preparing for what I'm supposed to do and see whilst I am in the USA. There are the obvious things, such as doing some sightseeing. Alexandria is very close to Washington D.C., so I'm definitely going there, to see some stuff. The United States Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, The White House and the Washington Monument are all on the list. I'm also going to do some local sightseeing around Alexandria.

Then, it's time to figure out what places to eat. I figure, that seeing I'm gonna be in the land of fast food, I'm gonna visit a few and try them out. Wendy's, Popeye's, Five Guys and some other chains that I might find. I'd also love to go to a restaurant.

I'm also going to go to a department store, just to check it out and possibly find a bargain.

Over the next few months, I'm gonna get a more detailed plan together. Will I stick to it? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to have one

Rather than our fast food restaurants you might want to look at diners which will feed you a much more delicious burger than five guys or Wendy's which are just super skinny pattys like flavored cardboard.
I want to try them, because what I see on their menu looks amazing! I'm not going to eat there all the time, just once. Dinner will probably be at a diner or at my friends place.
WHOA ! DANGER PHILIPSEN..
WENDY'S ? .5 GUYS ?!?!
... DON'T FORGET YOUR OTHER BLOG
AND THAT HEALTH THING YOU WERE GOING ON ABOUT.
I assume you're flying into National airport? How are you getting around? Renting a car? Are you licenced to drive in the US? I suggest you get out of the Washington DC area ASAP. the place is a cesspool. I live about 90 miles south of National Airport. Just for your info, it's 88* F 32* C right now @ 10:15 PM.
Yes it's a little pricey but very unforgettable.
Welcome to the USA. Have fun and make it a happy and memorable experience. wave
I spent a week in DC in 2001....I stayed in a hotel that was right above the metro...It was a very clean subway at the time.

My favorites were Ford’s Theater...Lincoln Memorial...(It is huge in person), The Holocaust Museum, and Arlington National Cemetery.

Do not waste your time doing the White House tour....It is going through much security clearance to see First Lady dishes and silly things.

If you can...go on a night tour on one of the charter buses....It is so gorgeous at night...And, I will never forget the seeing the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall at night....It was so sobering watching the people tracing the names of those they knew on that wall...

It is not a safe place at night....in fact, we would joke that everyone got out of dodge at dark..and, that was 21 years ago....why I say take a charter bus..The one we used dropped us off at the front door to our hotel at the end of the tour.

I would love to go back one day...when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
I don't plan on taking the tour, but I do plan on taking a picture from outside the fence. I'll ask the guards there if it's okay to do so. I don't want to cause any alarms to go off or anything.

I have taken note of your suggestions, so they are going on my list :)
Thank you peace. I'm sure it'll be a fun time
Personally, I'm apalled that Raphael has not yet volunteered to be your tour guide thru & beyond the Capitol Rotunda..
My friend is picking me up from the airport, so that's a very good thing. Less to worry about :)
Lots of guys in suits and earpieces....everywhere there.

Coolest thing that happened....We had visited the Capitol....my husband left his cell phone when going through the security check...He did not notice until we got back to the hotel later that night...He called a number we found and the person who answered said it was found...We could come by that night..We took a taxi and he met us at a side entrance....

He took us up an elevator that was for the Senate and we got to go in and look around...

Such a nice guy....there were pictures of Capitol police officers who were killed when a mentally ill man shot and killed them...

I am sure there is much more security now...This was before 9/11....
Which is why I want to ask for permission before taking any photos. In this day and age, anyone can be a threat
Ok this is just an idea.
Join Tic Toc a month or so before you go and you are sure to meet many young folk of your age. At least then you can see and hear if they are mentally stable or notlaugh Get to know them on TT and I'm reasonably sure you won't have a problem with accommodation or good cheapish eats.
Why TT? Well on tic toc you can visually assess the people who you choose to meet etc and interact with once you are there on vacation.
As I said this is just an idea.
A stranger is just a friend you do not know.cheers
302 daze & a wake up...at which point we will all be very lucky if airports, hotels & restaurants are operating per the Norm.
... the drought is already here in the West..
The planned Famine in progress with bird flu & systematic sabotage of food production.
