Jan. 6 probe: Trump did ‘everything’ to overturn election

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Chairman Bennie Thompson opened Thursday’s prime-time hearing of the Jan. 6 investigating committee, saying Donald Trump as president did “everything in his power to overturn the election” he lost to Joe Biden, including before and during the deadly Capitol attack.

“He lied, he bullied, he betrayed his oath,” charged Thompson, D-Miss.

After months of work and weeks of hearings, committee co-chair Liz Cheney of Wyoming said “the dam has begun to break” on revealing what happened that day, at the White House as well as in the violence at the Capitol.

This was probably the last hearing of the summer, but the panel said they will resume in September as more witnesses and information emerges.

“Our investigation goes forward,” said Thompson testifying remotely as he isolates after testing positive for COVID-19. “There needs to be accountability.”

Plunging into its second prime-time hearing on the Capitol attack, the committee vowed close scrutiny of Trump’s actions during the deadly riot, which the panel says he did nothing to stop but instead “gleefully” watched on television at the White House.

The hearing room was packed, including with several police officers who fought off the mob that day. The panel is diving into the 187 minutes that Trump failed to act on Jan. 6, 2021, despite pleas from aides, allies and even his family. The panel is arguing that the defeated president’s lies about a stolen election and attempts to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory fueled the attack and have left the United States facing enduring questions about the resiliency of its democracy."

have you ever heard of a "hearing" where only one side is presented?
this is nothing but another witch hunt. It's disgusting.
You trouble yourself too much . The witch hunt is driving support for MAGA . It is going to help get difficult to elect Trump endorsed people elected . Cox in Maryland for example . Would not in normal circumstances have much of a chance .
The liberals are trying to change their angle on what Trump supposedly did. Not only going prime time with this crap, but instead of accusing Trump of being behind the D.C. attack, they're now pushing the "well, Trump didn't do anything to stop it". The liberals got NOTHING on Trump, and they know it.

Trump said to protest the results, I didn't hear him tell them to storm the building. There's a BIG difference. Trump was within his rights with what he did with the electoral college. Why do you think the liberals have voted to change it now from a candidate challenging the results?

Bottom line is, liberals are scared to have Trump run in 2024, and that's why we're seeing all this crap.

It's bad enough that we have no real leadership now, and the economy is horrible. Dems, you got what you wanted, too bad a lot of us have to suffer as well!
Yes as that is the whole purpose of a hearing, to find and clarify evidence that could be used in a court of law.

BS, Trump is and never was a suitable candidate for the Presidency. Had Trump been honourable and honest this hearing etc would never have been put into motion. Nothing to do with fear, all to do with what is right
Wrong again, Riz!

Liberals have been out to get him ever since late 2019 starting with the debates. You don't even live in my country, and have to deal with the aftermath the last year in a half.

They can't beat him, so they cheat (yes, it's my opinion, and I don't think I'm wrong in it). Trump goes through the electoral college challenging the results with he had the right to do, and yet dems vote to change the rules with the electoral college.

Roe v Wade with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, now the dems want to stack the courts with 13 justices instead of 9 since they didn't win that one.

See a pattern here? When libs don't get their way, they lie, cheat, and steal. Maybe it's time to fight fire with fire.....but then I think, why should we lower ourselves down to their level. It'll all catch up with them one way or another. You can take that to the back!
Inciting violence by a President is wrong. Trump must be punished or you will have total anarchy and another civil war

End of story
so,in that case, how come Benny Thompson is making a direct accusation?
Without presenting any Evidence?
Has the Investigator turned Judge and Jury now,in a "Hearing"?confused
Afraid to show your Face?
You know very well that Trump did not at anytime incite any violence, regardless of what is in your mind!
A sad chapter in our country's history. Those responsible must be held accountable. All of 'em. sigh
Josh Hawley incites the crowd and then sprints to safety. rolling on the floor laughing

Only a moron would think Trump was an innocent party in this whole sordid affair.

He just sat in the White House dining room and watched the attack on the Capitol building on TV and did NOTHING.

As for inciting violence, I think all the evidence produced at the hearing suggests a very different point of view from your own personal one.
Large Curves

"Sen. Josh Hawley, the Missouri Republican who raised his fist in solidarity with a crowd of Trump supporters outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, was forced to flee rioters in new footage presented Thursday night by the House Jan. 6 committee in a televised hearing.

Hawley can be seen running through a hallway in the Capitol and then quickly making his way down a staircase with colleagues. The video was taken just hours after the senator was photographed saluting protesters massing at security gates near the building."

"Not long after Hawley made the gesture, barriers on the east side of the Capitol were breached, Luria said.

"Later that day, Sen. Hawley fled after those protesters he helped to rile up stormed the Capitol," Luria said. She noted that many of the people he saluted joined the mob after breaking through the barricades.

Footage of Hawley fleeing during the riot drew bursts of laughter in the committee hearing room.

Following the riot, Hawley condemned the violence at the Capitol and said he was simply objecting to the electors during the counting of electoral votes to give voice to his constituents in Missouri, a state that went for former President Trump by 15 percentage points in 2020."
