The first of August is Swiss National Day, which is celebrated with political speeches, bonfires, fireworks and lanterns.

Hi Lukeon applause

About 19 years ago, my ex-husband who was a chef with Fullerton Hotel, Singapore, was sent to St.Moritz for their gourmet festival.

He bought me 2 gifts from Geneva.

A ceramic fondue pot that looked something like this.

Fondues are not our thing and the pot ended up as a showpiece in our kitchen cabinet. On more than one occasion, I had been very tempted to give it to his mom so that she could cook her curry in it grin

I was collecting Wedgwood mugs back then and he got me this.

Only problem was……I already got the same one! roll eyes

Happy Swiss day to all Swiss Nationals. I'll be there next month Luke. wave
well,it was hot!
And I can't hear as much Fireworks as in other years!
Possibly because of the dry weather!
Sometimes it is dry enough that even the traditional Bonfires aren't lit!
Enjoy Ccheering

Hi Mimiteddybear
Enjoy your Swiss trip, LJ applause

It’s in my bucket list but I’m afraid it’d be wayyyyy out of my budget range. blues
Don't forget to sample a good wine with real Swiss cheese. They say after you had it once you will commit crimes to get it again.laugh
We need to have this important day moved to mid-winter so that the Bonfires can really be appreciated. Right?

laugh
I used to live there Luke. Great memories. I go at least every three years but the covid happened.
Hahaha, I gained about 25 pounds just by eating fondue and croissants Luke. That's how I started a serious gym habit. Until today, 45 years later still do 100 push up a day.
And don't eat cheese as much anymore. Just Dubliner now with my sourdough.
would get dark way earlier.
Need to be in the Alpine Region to really appreciate those Bonfires!Every major Hill would have one.
They were used as Signals,Alarms and calls for help in the old days!
