Divine intervention or just luck?

I cannot explain this. No matter how much I go through it, in my mind, I simply cannot explain what happened today.

Yesterday, after work, I went to do some food shopping. When I got home, my keys were missing. I retraced my steps, but I couldn't find them. I phoned up my landlady, who came by and unlocked the front door and my room. She then told me she would be back today with a new set of keys.

I went to bed, not sleeping well at all. I lost a set of keys. Both to the house, but also to my mothers place as well.

This morning, I was late getting out of the door. This is where the unexplained happened. I was waiting for the bus, and as I did, a road construction worker came up to me. "Good morning. You look like a nice guy. I was wondering if you could help me with something?"

I'm always up for helping, so my response was "Sure, what do you need?".

"I found these keys, and I was hoping you could get them back to whoever lost them."

I looked down into his hands - he was holding my exact keys, that I lost the day before.

What are the chances, that this guy and me were at the exact same spot, at the exact same time? And that he had my keys? He could have gone about his day, not coming up to me, and I would have lost my keys forever. I told the story today to my coworkers, and one of them went "It's divine intervention, for sure! The Universe has rewarded you. God is with you and He loves you!". It's one of those things that cannot be explained.

I should buy a lottery ticket..

You've someone above looking out for you angel
so I would say its a bit of both.
Here's a farfetched idea.

The bloke picked your pocket, took your keys.
He copied your keys.
Then he gave them back to you so that you wouldn't change the locks.

The story is just too perfectly co-incidental.
And NO ! .you should not buy a lotto ticket.
Well, think about it. You dropped your keys near the bus stop the day before and this chap happened to be working nearby. The chances of him spotting them in the morning while working on the ground are quite a bit better than yours the day before when you retraced your path.

Now, assuming this was not a very busy bus stop and that this was early in the morning, then the chances of him come across you before anybody else after spotting the keys are pretty reasonable in my view. He probably asked you for help because he reckoned that you might be a regular there. Basically, although the chances were probably not in your favour, I don't see this as that impossible.

As for divine intervention, I cannae help but wonder sometimes: God heeded your petty plight for your keys whereas he couldn't be bothered with that of some poor, miserable, innocent kid starving to death in Africa? Why would you be that much more important to God compared to the hypothetical (yet all-too-real) kid in question?

That said, I do have a tendency to indulge in your same thinking sometimes. May God forgive me for doubting this much.
So am I the only one around here to notice the unmentionable roll eyes
Well alright, I didn't factor this in but you also do not know when and where you lost them yeah? I think if the worker found them near the bus stop, you either must have lost them somewhere close by or else there's foul play involved here. I'd be more inclined towards the former.
PS: I would also changed the lock just in case the nice construction worker has just IDed the owner of the keys (as unlikely as that may be).
That Bob can actually write coherently? I knew this already
Ha ha, very cute Joey laugh but no.....
even though I've been noticing some of that lately lol

But why would a complete stranger approach another by telling him he seems like a nice guy?
I find that as odd as Phil finding the keys in the way that he did in the first place, or perhaps that's just me.... over thinking things again uncertain
Yeah, you're right. It kinda occurred to me somewhat (comment #11)
Perhaps with his little bit of luck from above roll eyes

perhaps a message from above as well dunno
I'm leaning to the theory that the construction worker did pick your pocket and had another set of keys made and your next blog will be about how someone broke in your apartment without any signs of forced entry and stole your PlayStation.mumbling
Nothing to do with God because God never existed

Buy yourself a lottery ticket

thumbs up
What truly is unlikely is if nothing unlikely ever happens. Expect the unexpected as they say, fact is stranger than fiction.
I must admit that this makes a lot of sense. He did mention he found them at the bus stop that I use every morning, so it would make sense why he found them there :)
The worker doesn’t know where I live. It wouldn’t make any sense for him to steal them and then clone them and then try every single house in order to find where I live
Now you're thinking Philipson.
The worker saw you as trustworthy so entrusted you would find the owner of those keys
Did he see that You were the owner or had he already moved on?
Anyway, I don't believe you have a thing to worry about..............................applause
I think if they fell out of your pocket you would have heard them hit the ground. Unless you dropped them on grass. But after all the coins and trinkets I have found under couch cushions.. I'm thinking you lost them in the bus seat, when you got up they fell onto the seat and that man may have been on the bus and saw them and remembered seeing you. If that happened he probably should have gave them to the bus driver. I don't think keys would be something someone would steal, they would be useless. I've got keys on my key ring that I don't even know what they go to, if a stranger had them they'd really not know. Maybe he just decided to make your day a little more mysterious.
@op Change your locks!

And as to @ab writing coherently - well we all have moments of aberration, deviance and inconsistency. He had an off moment - don't worry, he'll revert. I now have acquired automatic skipover syndrome - see $ eye or ellipses and lo! passover has arrived.
The occurrence which happened to you was the result of slim odds but is still a valid probability....the odds of hitting a 'hole in one' in golf, are about 12,500/1; but people still hit 'holes in one' on golf courses...
@OP doesn't know your address, but with patience can backtrack you since it seems to be your stop. Same time of day?
It's called peace of mind.
You appeared to be bothered by it so you had probably already considered some of the potential problems that could arise, but that's why I pointed out the possibility that occurred to me.
Just looking out for you that's all.

Sometimes you hear people saying things like "I wish I thought of that". Well, my job is done, I can rest easy.
There is a 50/50 chance that the guy is good or bad.
Either he copied the keys or he did not.
Only you were in the situation to observe and judge events, the information we had was sketchy. Things like, can your door be seen from the bus stop, did you see the guy actually working on the road. And of course his demeanor.

Where is Mrs Bucket when you need her. laugh
I am listening to music when I head for work, so I wouldn't have heard them fall to the ground :)
TThere is no need for that. There's always someone home in the house. I don't live alone :). One of my 8 other roommates are always home
And tell me philly, any of these 8 roommates a chick's worth you time aye? Go for it, son. We're 40. Is a now or never thing for us at this point!
8 roommates !?...( ..I know the horror.
...6 roommates, 2 dogs, too many cats
...and Zombies on the March in the general area.
