Did the wool bear tell the truth?
I know. Old folk tales. But, every fall I find a woolly bear, pick him up to check and say "woolly bear woolly bear, tell me no lies". Their color bands, I think are set in a certain pattern. But, hope spring eternal. OK..butt is black, head is black and center is big brown. So, hard on start and end and mild in middle?Yet it seems to be truth. We went here from 70, above highs to 9 the other night. Snow is on the ground, wind howling and cold. Turkey day is said to be 40 and then above average.
The geese are still on the river. And then the cranes came in for the night so they are still here. I figure when they haul out, we are doomed. So far, so good.
If a whole flock landed and I tied strings to each ones foot, could they haul me up and take me south with them? But, I think they only go a bit south and then land in a lake so that wont work.
I have the wood furnace up and running. My system is I walk out the kitchen door into a sun enclosure. Down the steps into another one/arbor. That goes into another continuous arbor and onto the wood shed. The furnace is in the front of that continuous run. It ducks air into the basement through windows. So it and the wood and me are always under cover. Next to the furnace is a bench with rugs. Underneath is a wood box my guy built for the cats. Next to it a cardboard box with end opening. I average 10 to 15 cats give or take. Some are pets, some half feral and one a complete feral IDIOT! I feed them all in pans in the arbor at the bottom of the stairs. They all pile on top of the wood furnace. The colder it gets, the more they huddle. I laugh when I see browned fur on someone. Or even guard hairs gone. Uh...guess you got the closest to the chimney pipe. Didn't you notice just maybe..you were getting a bit warm on one side?
I do let a few inside to eat tinned food sometimes. And the old ma who is the start of this all. Steamboat. She is around 7. She is in right now. LET ME IN! And where is she? Yep..on my bed.
I have a 5 gallon pail with 4 pepper plants in. I started them in the sun enclosure. Now carry the pail in and out. Guess they need to deal with in for the week. And of course, just starting to bloom. See if they fade away or can make it. Be nice. Bit dark in the dining room. As soon as sun enclosure is 40 and sunny, will set them out as much as I can. Peppers prefer cool.

But then I saw another one about a month ago and it was all black.
