New rule! I know, another one.. Hear me out!

During my time online, and in the real world, I often hear people say "we" when it comes to sports. Example: "We lost today, because we were bad"..

No.. "we" weren't bad - the team was bad. You cannot say "we" unless you are on the squad or a part of the team in some way. I'm not talking about being a member of a fan club - I'm talking about being a member of the ACTUAL team. Like a coach, or a share holder.

"But Philipsen, some clubs allows fans to have a participation in the club. Shouldn't they be allowed to say "we" about the team?", I hear you ask..

It depends on how much you participate in the team. If you are on the board of directors, then yes. If you give input on fan forums, then no..

It is just me that feels this way?

There are many facets to group belonging: community is one; persecution is another.

Your rule ignores the extremes, subtleties and complexity of group dynamic.

It's not healthy to be dictatorial about 'we', whether you're demanding it, or banning it.
Fans claim teams as 'their own' although of course there is no ownership whatsoever. It is quite natural for such fans to speak of 'we' being the set which is a union of {me} plus {team}. Nothing wrong with 'we' though I have never felt such a sense of union. Well, I see the Aussies beat the Pohms by 72 runs at ODI cricket last night, so WE have done well haven't WE. Whoops, maybe I have.
When you have an interest in a game that has no known use, the 'we' has a wider circle beyond team, or nationality. giggle
I say we when commenting on the team I support with passion.

The teams we support look at us as being a part of their team .

It will always be we it will never be them & us.
I admit this isn't my finest take or my finest work. It was written at 1 am, so I was a bit tired and a bit grumpy doh
It could be worse, Philipsen.

There are people who like cricket and have no remorse whatsoever.
We can relate to that. No remarks from you, however on shall and will. We will take note, shan't we!
I think it's just how conservatives find their greater meaning in life. As part of something greater than yourself, it's liberal to say "I" where conservatives say "we".

You see the same thing when it comes to the flag. Who's flag is this British flag? Is it mine because I paid for it (liberal)? Or is it Britain's flag(conservative)?
Is a flag the private property of the person who bought it? Are you free to do what you want with it, set it on fire for example? Then it's liberal. Or does it belong to the nation? Is the fact that it's my private property less than the great feeling of the group? Can the group decide for me what I can and cannot do with my own property? Then it's conservative
I know that at least one of the reasons why I'm so tolerant of people different to me is because I was a Thatcher baby. There's no contradiction. The better future thanks to Thatcher(at least for many)is the reason why you're free to do you. I don't have a problem with that precisely because of being a Thatcher baby where the future was promising.
