We have entered that time of the year that my skin hates.
I have very sensitive skin, so cold weather is not really something I am a fan of. These past few days, my hands have suffered a LOT! We're talking redding, cracking skin and just generally a very dry pair of hands. My first stop after work was at the local chemist. I was the only person in the store, so I was attended to quickly.
"Hello, I need something for my hands, please", was my opening line. I showed the woman my hands - which at that point was full of scratches, red patches and just general dryness.
"Oh mo, yeah you need something with a lot of fat in it", was her reply. So she showed me two different creams, at two different price points. I got the cheaper one, because it wasn't as "fat" as the other one. I was told to apply the cream pretty much all the time, seeing my skin was THAT dry.
So now I've tried it for a few hours, and it works! My hand is almost free of bruises and scratches. This is just the beginning. I have to use it all month long, so I am excited to see how my skin feels after the tub is empty.
I can safely say that my hands hate the cold weather.

As you can't use steroids on broken skin, I'd have to superglue the cracks together before applying the cream.
As horrifying as this sounds, superglue was originally created as a battlefield first aid product for minor wounds.

I'd forgotten how extremely differently people regard winter.
