Another Tesla nightmare...
This involves Tesla's operating in FSD (Full Self-Driving) mode and unexpectedly abruptly braking. This week, it caused an 8-car pileup on the San Francisco Bay Bridge.Video shows the car entering the tube and stopping. I'm thinking it has to with loss of GPS signal, but some comments from Tesla test drivers have experienced the same problems on the open road.
This safety glitch could be serious.

and eventually lose to it, we should have learned.
But nope...
the above happens "profile deleted". At least that is not a traffic hazard...
Although it's not ideal for a car to come to a stop like that, in the UK the fault is with the driver who goes into the back of another car.
I don't drive myself, but if the 9th, 10th, etc. cars can stop and not become a part of the pile-up, what happened with the 2nd-7th cars?
Maybe the video has been slowed for clarity, but is it possible that at least some of the 2nd-7th drivers were not paying as much attention as they should have?
Given the controversy about using language that implies assisted driving technology is synonymous with driverless technology it all seems a bit muddled to me. Cars suddenly coming to a stop is not a unique phenomenon, neither is a less than alert driver. We don't blame all cars of one type every time there is an accident and we don't assume fault without an investigation of what actually happened.
Is this really about reporting a glitch in the technology, or is there an element of knocking Elon Musk of his pedestal in the way this has been presented?
I'm not sure of the liability when multiple cars are involved.
Let's say car #2 had sufficient distance to stop but car #3 plowed into him forcing him to hit car #1. How do you prove it?
The auto-pilot was in beta testing, maybe they need to go back to design for more evaluation. Musk had commented recently about the advances to his FSD.
Both...
Glitch and knocking Musk. There's some politics involved with it.
Just saying...
The first electric-vehicle manufacturer to actively avoid like the plague in the new year is none other than the world's largest automaker by market cap, Tesla (TSLA -0.94%)."
Errol Musk broke the world record for most money lost in 1 year i think it was, he's having a bad run our mate Errol..
Auto is assist. Not mommy taking care of me. Add to it people who go zombie when driving.
I watch the traffic cams on interstate. Watch as cars and trucks race past the camera so fast it is scary. Add flawed self driving cars and exploding batteries to the mix of failing brakes, bad tires, rusted A arms, disintegrating tires, falling cargo, flung rocks, animals, bicycles, pedestrians and no wonder the slaughter rate on highways equals a skirmish.
I have watched...standing along side my country road. I am back in the field a bit, not in the ditch. People drive by and never notice me. They stare ahead, never check around their car. No wonder they hit deer in broad daylight. I constantly check things when I drive. Ahead, sides, behind. And plan that that car will run his stop sign.
