Your atonement can not wash away your sins but can stop you from committing new sins.The law of nature is very strict. If the action is done by you, then sooner or later the reaction is bound to happen.
Nature doesn't know how to forgive, it just returns the deed done by you, back to you with interest.
Nature keeps track of your good and bad deeds and returns it to you sooner or later.
Human can forget and forgive but Nature neither forgets nor forgives.
