More than 2,300 people were killed and thousands were injured in earthquake in Turkey and Syria

Harrowing footage emerged early Monday showing an apartment building in Turkey collapsing into a pile of rubble, sending terrified people running for their lives, during a monster magnitude-7.8 earthquake that hit central Turkey and northwest Syria.

More than 2,300 people were killed and thousands were injured in the natural disaster that knocked down apartment blocks in Turkey and devastated cities in Syria that were already heavily damaged by years of war.

Dramatic footage that was recorded in the daytime in the city of Sanliurfa in southeastern Turkey shows a seven-story building coming down as a result of the powerful tremors.

In the recording, curious bystanders initially gaze at the red and yellow building as it starts to shake. Moments later, the entire edifice crashes down, sending debris and billowing clouds of thick dust into the street, and prompting onlookers to flee on foot, in cars or on scooters.

The quake, the worst to strike Turkey this century, shook parts of the country in the early morning local time and was felt as far away as Cyprus and Lebanon, about 330 miles. It was followed by another 7.7-magnitude temblor in the afternoon.

It was not immediately clear how much damage had been done by the second quake, also felt across the region, as rescue workers were struggling to pull casualties from rubble in bitterly cold weather.

I guess you don't know that Turkey hosts more than 10 million Syrian refugees since 2011.. There was an earthquake here and people are suffering..You are doing politics.
Yes i knew about the Syrian refugees in Turkey, but Turkey still has a problem with the Kurds don't they.. doh
Turkey has to worry about NATO to now, NATO warning of terror attacks in Turkey ?
Watch the gas pipeline coming from Russia is what NATO is says..
Watched it on the news this evening, horribly sad sad flower

Wonder will they all come as quickly together to offer aid to help, as they do weapons to kill.

If she's still there, hope Jazz is safe.
Wow. The biggest that I've been in is a 5.0, and I wasn't in the epicenter. 7.8 would be unimaginable.

Israel felt the quake, but I couldn't find out if anybody was hurt there, as they were all busy announcing aid for the most seriously affected areas and countries. thumbs up
For now, everything is running as usual thanks to all the teams and those who came to help. But tonight the death toll will rise even more. The weather conditions are very bad right now and we are in the middle of the winter season. night temperatures are in minus degrees. Those under the rubble are still waiting to be rescued since 4am last night. Unfortunately, it takes time to intervene after an earthquake in 10 provinces.
We're praying for the best possible outcome, given the circumstances.

Shalom,
Iyyov
So very sorry to read about what happened in your country.
Please keep telling us what is really going on as we are being lied to all the time.......sad flower
Heartbreaking to see the devastating damage.
My hearts hurts for those poor people.
Thank you.may God bless us all..
at this moment inofficial numbers are 3400+ dead and 20K + injured Numbers keep increasing.
Yes i know what you mean clearly. I have friends from all over the world, from every continent. Most people are misinformed as you say. Unfortunately, it is very rare to find real news about the Middle East. However, most of the media and press organs belong to foreign companies. American British Italian French. Somehow the news is deliberately distorted. My friends who came here to visit were often surprised at how different the Turkey they saw on the news and the Turkey they saw in reality were.
Yes on top of it all it had to happen in the winter, sure hope and pray that enough fires were started to keep people warm I keep seeing a man who was buried 1/2 of his body showing, having to wait to be freed what he must go through.
Happy so much help has arrived, but where are all those going who now have no home, no bed to sleep in?
Please keep us informed, our thoughts and prayers are with you..............sad flower bouquet
For those who have not yet found a place, the owners of buses and large vehicles in the vicinity help them stay in the vehicles and warm up. Many settlements that still cannot receive help are waiting for logistical support. There are more than 6000 destroyed buildings. Since roads are damaged, airports are damaged, some of the damaged hospitals are demolished, interventions are made outside. Doctors went to help, but due to lack of coordination, doctors cannot provide the necessary assistance. The regions, where a lot of aid is sent, are trying to direct the aid to other provinces. There is complete chaos and many people unfortunately froze to death under the rubble due to the cold last night.
