Heartbeat...

I check my blood pressure a few times a week, usually at rest in the morning. If I'm doing exercises, I sometimes check again right after to see the elevated pressure and the number of heartbeats per minute.

On average I'm seeing around 65bpm. 20 years ago, I had a cardiologist who insisted I take medicine that slowed my heart rate to 60 or below. The theory was less strain on my heart.
Over the years I've been on different hypertension medicines that each have their way of working. I remember one medicine made me light-headed when I did strenuous exercise like yard work for an hour. I had to take breaks often and wait for my heart-rate to go down. Testing, testing, testing I think the maximum was between 100-110 beats per minute.

Different doctor now, different medicines and I haven't checked under a stressful situation in a while.

I was in the main office yesterday and the installation supervisor returned from a clinic doing blood work. He's stressed out and that doesn't surprise me as it''s a suicidal position with nothing but pressure when you don't have enough good installers to keep up with the workload.

He showed me a new digital watch with a health monitor as his beats per minute were 115 when he's calmly walking around. He's a time bomb just waiting to go off!
When it gets to 120 beats per minute, the watch alerts him.

To me he's got the wrong medicines and... possibly the wrong cardiologist!
That isn't a good combination.

normal blood pressure level is less than 120/80 mmHg. No matter your age, you can take steps each day to keep your blood pressure in a healthy range.

And safe exercise range is 200 - your age

If you are worried about your heart rate exceeding 60 beats per min you must lead a very sedimentary life style.

I don't pay too much attention to my heart rate now. It's rarely lower than 59 and peaks around 88 when I moved furniture or do a brisk walk for 30 minutes.

I'm taking all different medicines than I was a year ago. Furosemide for water retention is much more effective than hydrochlorothiazide that I took for many years.
My cholesterol is low and sugar under 125 if I avoid fruit drinks.

The automatic blood pressure monitor I got 4 years ago shows numbers much higher than my primary care doctor and cardiologist report to me.
I'll check pressure before I go to an appointment and could read 140/84 with 59bpm
They will tell me 121/79 60bpm and I say 'no way' please check it again.
Same numbers. I plan to bring the machine on an appointment so we can check to see if my monitor is off.
You know it's normal to get totally different readings during the day... especially if I've had 4 hours sleep and 2 large cups of coffee.

Christmas week, I filled my car with cabinet parts for a new kitchen and carried them up a flight of stains. I was fine until morning. Sciatic nerve pain was the worst I've experienced. Taking Tylenol and alternating with Aspirin my pressure was higher than normal and I completely stopped exercise.

I'm usually up at 7am doing design work most of the day. I'm going back to walking in the afternoon to reduce swelling in my ankles from sitting 10 hours at the computer.

Al things considered, my stress levels are low and my coworker cannot catch a quiet minute in his schedule. Lots of angry customers thinking they shouldn't have to wait for service.
As a reference, I'm doing pretty good. It's the coworker I'm concerned about.
laugh Watch out, the coworker might outlive you. cheers
You never know. Some really healthy people get hit by cars...
