Ouch
I restrung my guitar a few days ago and decided on a new string and a new string size. I went up in size and got a higher output string. Sounds great, the online reviews were correct. Because I got bigger strings though, my hand is not used to the tension and my hand is a bit sore now. Also, I was so honed in on the size I was using, I got to retrain my hands to do what they were used to doing on a smaller string. In a few weeks, most of that should be taken care of but for the moment, its a slightly painful retraining exercise. They sound good though, worth the effort

String theory?
Some guitars are sensitive to string gauge tension and may require a complete change of setup. Bridge height, intonation and truss rod adjustments. The same goes for the springs in a tremolo/whammy bar.
In the 60's Page and Beck were using banjo strings of a lighter gauge than guitar strings.
I read that Stevie Ray Vaughan played with very heavy gauge strings.
One article said they are .013 – .017 – .026w – .036 – .046 – .056
Yeah... a wound G string!
He also tuned down a half-step.
