UK vs US ... .

I have just watched the coronation and when looking at the majority of thousands upon thousands of hopefully British public (I know it was a mix) people I couldn't help noticing that they weren't half as obese as the USA public that I sometimes see on US channels.

Not sure if this is my imagination or not.
Has anyone else noticed this and if so what causes this?
I doubt it can only be the current fast food trade alone, maybe genetics?
