It the culture dummy.

I read an article by a Negro gentleman. He spoke about the situation of his race. And said it is not racism. It is the culture. He is so right. It is a culture and attitude that keeps any race, sect, nationality, gender or whatever in the place they exist in. It is a cop out to blame any of it on those aspects.
Whether black, white, brown..whatever country of origin, it could be over come. Many have. When saying its racism, look at those who listened to the whine, the man keeps me down...struggled and ignored it.and succeeded. They ignored being told you will never amount to anything because___________!scold Shanty Irish, Pollack, Jew, Kraut, etc...they fill positions of rank in offices, government, medical, law, business, schools. They are lawyers, Doctors, store owners, movie stars, politicians, astronauts.
Culture is the issue. When any group tolerates evil or crime or slovenliness or rudeness because..he is one of us. It could be us. When a woman divorces a man because he never is home, has affairs, sews his wild oats, treats her like dirt, beats her, wont support the family and refuses to be a helpmate. And then raise her kids the same. Daughter, you do the laundry cause brother has better things to do. He gets to stay out at night cause he is a boy. In other words, teaches him or allows him to become a man just like the man she kicked out.
When someone shop lifts and the culture excuses it. When crime occurs and the culture turns the other cheek because there has to be a reason. Yes. The reason is because the group will stick together no matter what just because it is the culture of the group. Us against the world.
So easy to cry racism rather than admit it is a culture that allows and perpetuates what is actually stopping them from succeeding. Go tell it to James Earl Jones or that congressman or woman. The lawyer, the C.E.O, or your minority Doctor from the Dominican Republic.

Harriet Tubman -
Small, illiterate, black woman born into slavery.

Prior to Civil War- conductor on Underground Railroad.

During Civil War -
Cook, Nurse, Spy, Organized steamboat raid into the South that freed 700 slaves ...
Credited as 1st US Woman to lead a military operation.

It was thought that putting her on the $20 bill would piss off old white guys.

Turns out they're Remarkably OK with a gun toting, 2nd Amendment supporting, slave freeing, Democrat shooting, Republican Black Woman. thumbs up

Probably explains Why neither Obama nor Ol' Joe have Actually Gotten her on the $20 bill.

Sorry for the double post

That is the point. Where there is a will there is a way. But, it is easier to lay back and cry it is the man, it is the society, it is racism that keeps one down. Rather than look at people who started out on the bottom of the dung heap and somehow became a success. Start with education. No ghetto talk and cut down anyone who tries to better themselves. No using the excuses of the culture.
Very true re copping out by blaming attitude, and very true about overcoming differences. We are a competitive combative tribal species, we humans, and will always eye strangers askance. When someone is instantly obviously a stranger by reason of race, gender, traditional attire, even the second they open their mouth and have a different accent, they will always have to work harder for acceptance and any hostility will always target their differences. It is what it is.

The instinct to stick with others like us, where acceptance is easier, that's not going to change. Neither is resentment from the general tribe, because the different cling together, going to change. You have to work for general acceptance and it will always take longer and it will never be complete but it can be done.

I was a fair-skinned redhead in Africa - outsider
I was a fair-skinned redhead in Scotland, but didn't sound Scottish - outsider
I am a fair-skinned redhead in Spain who doesn't speak fluent Spanish - outsider

You can't insist on acceptance if you are different, you have to earn it. I get impatient with the whiners. It is what it is. Nobody gets the world on a plate and you find your place and make the best you can of it. JMO.
It even goes for small rural communities. My parents moved to this farm in 1951 when I was 6 months old. They learned early on to not remark about someone because the person they were talking to would say that is my uncle, cousin, wifes sister, etc. All those decades they were those city folks. I went to school with the kids from farms around. One day my husband and I went to visit a guy we knew a few miles away. He had a visitor already, an old farmer. He introduced us by name. The farmer said oh, I know her, she an old Lewiston gal. Wow! After all those years..I finally belonged!
Same thing when us country kids went into town for high school. We were the farm kids, the outsiders to the townies. And they were the outsiders to us.
Primitive nature. Anything different or new may be danger.uh oh
