What it was like to be 12 years old.....
I don't remember much about being 12, but after reading the umpteenth blog about depression, loneliness, scammers, and just down right depressing and self-pitying blogs, I decided to search for some paperwork I've been needing to find. In my search, I came across quite a little gem......When I was 12, my best friend at the time used to write me notes, and always tried to make me laugh with little 'Birdy Birdy in the sky' rhymes and stories. Amidst the paperwork in one folder, I found the tattered, pencil written note from 1992 from my best friend. I will say it really warmed my heart, made me laugh, and put things back in perspective.
It reads:
I'm so glad we are best friends. :) Better than medicine when I fart. Im sorry its just a habit, toot toot. If we broke up Id be a nerves wreek. I'd proudly choke on my gum then puke, and suck it up yuk yuk, thats what will happen so be ready if it happens.
You are my best friend. Im sorry when we get into fights. If we ever break up, it would be horrible. Will you get our best friend necklaces next time you are at the mall? I drew a picture, I hope you like it. I like yours, the bird looks so cool, I mean, cute. Listen to this poem:
Roses are Red,
Violets are blue,
if we ever break up,
I'll kill you!
Roses are red,
best friend necklaces are silver,
If we break up, Ill hate you forever!
Birdy Birdy in the sky
You better close your mouth or die
then you'll go Buy-Buy :(
Why Why
Dont ask me why
Why, you silly- fly!

I have a 12 year old daughter who I try to convince to write to her friends instead of emailing.
This is exactly why.
Thank you for sharing that Drea.
I used to keep mememtos like that...they bring you back to the past and people you cared about. I still have a few of them... some of them unavoidably got lost in living. My older sister kept them, too. I still remember how when she was in the airforce and I wrote her letters, she kept them. Years later we laughed at the silly faces I drew on them, as well as poetry.
And at 12 I kissed for the first time the girl that I loved since kindergarten not that I knew what love is then, but we stayed together until we were 17
And I went on a ride on my parents car alone for the first time... what a tragedy that was a couple of months later when they found out
Hope my daughter will not be as crazy as I was as a child
And thank you for posting something that was NOT about the world going to Hell in a hand basket, the lonely hearts club lament, or the feed my insecure ego drivel!
Yes...I wish I could remember more about that age...as I sat and thought about it more I started to remember more and piece things together...but had she not written the date on the page I would have never known!!
The older we get the more we seem to lose touch with our innocence and there is something sad about that
Miss Calm-
Yes, I actually have boxes of letters....but most of those were more recent.....and how I wish more people wrote letters! I try to write them everynow and then...or send out cards....its such a sad day and age when I dont even check the mail anymore because I already know its just copies of bills......
Awww a true love haha...how cute!
I also went for a joyride in my friends dad's truck....except I was 13 or 14 so I guess you have me beat! He would have never known, but when we were turning around to take the truck back to her house, he ended up seeing us in the parking lot as he was driving home from work!
Turns out I was driving at that time too...so that had to look worse! Even though it was all her idea
haha yes, I am trying to keep the vibes up in this place....I was tempted to just get rid of this account yesterday for a while, because I really dont see the point in logging on to a website to only read about everyone else's pity-parties (not that they are not allowed) but it was getting to excess for me.....I used to come to this site for fun, not to get depressed myself!!
I agree! Kids just are filled with pure innocence and love, and no judgements.
Everytime I talk to my nephew on the phone I cannot remove the smile from my face. He just says the smartest things...so matter-of-factly....
On Mothers Day I guess he told my mom-(he's 6)
"Gramma, I just wanted to let you know that we have a surprise for you for Mother's Day, but that I CANNOT tell you what it is....ok?"
and she replied "Well, if its a surprise, your not supposed to tell me about it!"
and he said..."But Gramma, I just wanted to make sure you knew about it first so you knew it was coming!"
Bless his heart heheeee
