Do you believe in "soulmates"?

How many of you believe that there is one true person out there for each of us. Just one soulmate?

I used to think that soulmates really exist. That he is just out there thinking of me and chances are we will meet each other and will live happily ever after.

But not anymore...

Because I realised now that true soulmates do exist but they will not stay with us forever..they will come and knock us down, they are our own mirror that will make us face the reality of what and who we are. And they will change us...the hard way.

I am now of the belief that we just move from person to person until we meet someone that we are comfortable with. Someone we can stand being with for the rest of our lives.

Is it defeatist thinking to not believe in fairytale love? I mean I had it not too long ago but I have seen where that can lead.

What do you guys think?

I agree that you just have to find someone you are comfortable with!
I believe in love. However, soulmates is not for everyone. bouquet
I believe that there are a few people out there that will really touch your heart and, with much patience and hard work, can become a mate for life.

I don't believe that there is just "one true soulmate."
Wow! I completely agree with all your thoughts.

Yeah..our lives are not static but continually changing situations, it is unrealistic to think there is one person out there that will meet that definition of soulmate throughout our entire life.

By having that "one soulmate" viewpoint I think a lot of people limit themselves and also make it harder on themselves when a relationship doesn't work out.

Soul mates can be lovers, parents, siblings, relatives, best friends and other individuals in our lives who are usually very close to us. As I understand it, four different kinds of soul mate relationships are possible.

"Karmic" soul mates are two individuals who have come together during a given lifetime to heal something from a past life or previous lives. Their relationship with one another can be very profound and loving, or it can deteriorate into the same negative situation that was created in a previous life. Another possible outcome is that the karma may only be partially resolved, leaving both with more work to do during this or some future life together.

All the negative karma we’ve incurred during any of our previous lives will eventually be healed through decisions that are based upon unconditional love and forgiveness. This will not happen because we are forced to do so as a form of punishment. Rather, our choices to bring healing will be based upon free will, which we and we alone will make.

This is what the universal law of karma is about. And we will have as many lives as we need to eventually balance all we have caused others to feel through fear, anger, hatred, bitterness, jealousy, and other ego-based choices.
And Mister Pitts....what happened to Princess Diana and Marilyn Monroe? How quickly you cast them aside....confused cheers
I don't believe there is only one soulmate. As you, I held this idea more when younger, but I was influenced by popular romantic thought at the time. I believe we meet people that we resonate more than with others, and that you can deeply love more than one person in life. Whether that turns into a marriage or long term relationship is influenced by many other factors.

When people say "Only you are for me" they are seriously limiting themselves to despair if they "lose" that one love. It would be interesting to see how many people married and subsequently divorced someone they believed was their soulmate. Perhaps they thought they were soulmates at one time and lster realized they were mistaken. laugh bouquet
Excellent point, Miss Calmhearts! Better to be one's own soulmate and let the others come and go as they are meant to. wine
