WX: Reputation, Good Faith? Stupid!

Finally the rescue failed and 10 Hong Kong tourists died after their bus was hijacked.

The hijacker just wanted to be reinstated. Why not lie to him that he could be reinstated, to save people’s life first? And then after making sure that the tourists are safe, arrest the hijacker and send him to the court.

What’s wrong about that? Reputation, good faith? Just bullshit. Isn’t people’ life much more important than the so-called reputation, good faith and so on.

Perhaps I am not honest if I lie to him that he could be reinstated. But my reputation is nothing compared to their husbands’ life who died because they stopped bullets from shooting at their wives and their children.

In Cha’s novels, honor, reputation, faith, loyality are very important. People can even…
kill themselves if they can not fulfill their promises
kill themselves for fear that they will lose their honor, reputation or faith
kill themselves…

But some people would rather lose their reputation to save other people's life.

Some sacrifices are worth, because in some situation, reputation, good faith are more important than their life. However, some are not worth. Sometimes, reputation, good faith can be very stupid.

there is not much honor left, and what there is, is strewn across the floor, where decency, faith, hope, trust, and charity, are best placed to trample on it, in good faith.,,, and that's the raw of it.

because they fired him for corruption shaking down people 2 years ago they'd of never let him back on their police force. and he knew it a bad apple to the end. lots of losers do that theirs really nothing u can do when someone has a gun bent on killing people . but eventually kill him after he's taken in this case 10 people . sometimes they get 30 or 40 or 100s of people . nothing to lose if u got a gun and don't mind dieing. i think he surrendered though im suprised he didn't blow his brains out. he'll probably hang himself in prison if they don't have the death penalty in philippines . he lost his reputation and job then his faith and snapped . nothing new.cheers peace
I guess without knowing all the details Jan it's hard to make a judgement on the way the authorities handled it. But it sounds like this ex-cop had completely lost the plot and would have been very difficult to negotiate with.

He probably knew that there were only two possible outcomes from this hijack...... and getting his job back wasn't one of them.sad flower
Hmm anyway, just to make a comment on repution. Although good reputation is vital in many fields, I think the good reputation we also enjoy to earn counts for more. If it's based on the false impression that's against our character, it's nothing more than hypocrisy. Sometimes we do need it though. Here's the news

I didn't know about the details as well, I'm sorry to hear that. blues
Hi all. And thanks for all your insightful comments.

Yes, it is hard to make a judgment on the way they solved this problem. Nobody will make a decision without any reason. They must have some reasons. But, I just think that, if they could lie to him (yes, it is not so honest and not so glorious), and make him calm down, those old grandparents would never lose their sons, those wives would never lose their husbands, and those children would never lose their fathers.

Actually things were not too bad until that he was refused. When he knew that he was refused, he began to shoot. Even though they really needed to refuse, they should refuse him in an indirect way, not a direct way, which made him angry and began to shoot.

Well, there is already enough criticism about this rescue already. Do not want to repeat those criticism here. Even the 8-year-old child will ask: why don’t they pretend to agree with him? Though lies are not so glorious and some may criticize that they LIE, but it works.

Hi yan. I haven’t read the English version and don’t think I will like reading news in a foreign language. How troublesome and inconvenient to read the English version. Have to check what this vocabulary means yawn sleep. But thank you for your links. I guess the English version must be a little different from the Chinese version. The foreign reporters will report the same thing in a western angle. And I read all the news on tengxun site. Tengxun is my first choice to read news.
Oh Jan actually I found this link for others to read on this site. I read the news from my phone but there were not many details. Thanks for the explanation. hug
There is so much of this story we do not know about aside from the news reports. Tragedy yes, what really happened in the police negotiating...only they know...
TO JANMEI,
SORRY FOR THE LOSE OF YOUR COUNTRYMEN. I WANT TO APOLOGIZE FROM MY HEART. I AM A FILIPINO TOO, BUT I DON'T AGREE ABOUT THE HOLD-UP AND KILLINGS. I WAS THERE VISITING IN MY OWN COUNTRY, BACK 20 YRS. AGO, AND WAS HAPPENED TO ME AND THE OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE BUS THAT I WAS IN. THERE WERE TWO MEN WHO ENTERED THE BUS, WHO TOOK OUR JEWELRIES AND MONEY. I ALSO THINK THAT IN THE MONTH OF JULY AND AUGUST ARE BAD MONTHS TO VISIT THE PHILIPPINES CUZ OF HOLD-UPPERS, ROBBERS AND KILLERS. IT'S BEC OF THE TIME FOR RAINY AND STORMY SEASON THAT MAKES THE BAD GUYS GO ON THEIR PREY.
ALSO, SUSPICIOUS OF THAT DRIVER THAT GOT AWAY. I THINK THAT HE WAS AN ACCOMPLISHED WITH THAT EX-POLICE. THAT CRIME IS UNFORGIVEBABLE, AND VERY SORRY TO HEAR THAT. I KNEW I WATCHED THAT INCIDENT ON TFC(THE FILIPINO CHANNEL).
Janmei--I'm also angry about this! And black, he didn't survive, he was shot by a police sniper AFTER he murdered 10 innocent people. It was covered well by the news services here in Taiwan.

There's anger all throughout Taiwan and the Mainland at how the Philippines mishandled this situation by not allowing the gunman to have his say to proclaim his innocence, which could have disarmed the situation and prevented the deaths.

As stated, it didn't matter whether he was guilty of corruption or not, it was simply an opportunity to resolve this without bloodshed. But in this, the Philippine government was reluctant to cooperate and are directly responsible for the deaths.

And the tactics employed by the Manila special police unit were flawed from the outset. They surrounded the bus as if in a siege situation, thereby putting pressure on the unbalanced gunman inside the bus by making him feel trapped. This was done with a total disregard for the safety of the hostages within.

In this country, prior to this tragic event, the Philippines had been considered by many people here as an unsafe country for a holiday destination, due to the reports of robbery and violence against Taiwanese tourists who had visited there.

I had often reassured people here that the perception of the Philippines as a dangerous place was in fact not as bad as reported.

But when an armed Phillipines POLICE OFFICER walks onto a tour bus and ultimately kills 10 people in a murderous rampage, I now have nothing to say to them to change their ideas.

As for the murderer himself, he was buried in uniform with full honors and a PHILIPPINE FLAG DRAPED OVER HIS COFFIN!!very mad

The perception is that the Philippines considers their operation a success because they killed the gunman and saved some of the hostages and that no Filipinos were injured or killed during the operation. very mad

The Philippines should be held completely responsible for this tragedy and should be held accountable to the Chinese government, the Hong Kong territories and especially the unfortunate families of those who were killed!!
Hi Medsummer. Yes, it is really a tragedy. Obviously there must be something wrong about their negotiating…

Hi lovelyliza. Thank you for your kind words and apologies. You, personally, do not do anything wrong, so don’t need to apologize. I write this blog, not focus on nationality or something like this. Just some people, not all their people. And I am sure many people will feel sad about it. Yes, in july and august it is very dangerous to visit there. So had better stay at home.

Hi Europrince. Yes, recently there are many reports about this. I have read many too. Yes, they considered they succeeded because they killed the gunman and saved some hostages. But on the whole, I think they failed. They made some mistakes, but they do not know, or they choose not to know, or choose to ignore. I guess they dare not face the fact that actually they fail.
