Did god create mankind, or did mankind create god
Well, it took him quite a while to come around to my way of thinking, but well known brilliant astrophysicist Stephen Hawking in his new book states that creation of the universe did not require a god. Rather, creation only required the laws of physics. He says a god would be "redundant".
My personal belief is that man created god (in his mind), rather than the reverse. Indeed, gods were often created to help explain things that past humans did not understand. This included phenomina such as; thunder, wine, fire, and yes, creation. Since we didn't understand these topics, gods were fabricated as the surmised cause(s). This religious belief was subsequently passed down generation to generation for centuries, most frequently by parents or clergy. However, over time, as topics became more understood, the god(s) believed to be responsible for the occurrences were deemed unnecessary and eliminated by the more educated. Naturally, the less educated were more reluctant to let go of their beliefs. As a more recent example, despite overwhelming evidence, amazingly, some people still hold onto their childhood beliefs, yet do not believe in evolution.
Well, despite now being able to cross off creation, as something now not needed to be done by a god, I guess a small percentage of people will ALWAYS hold onto the hope of life after death and a place to live it. I mean, don't get me wrong, it SOUNDS wonderful, but until someone shows real evidence of it or shows it to me, I don't believe it.
Nonetheless, Hawking's book is likely a triumph for progress in rationale thinking. One would imagine, that more free thinkers will be progressively accepted and atheism will be on the rise. This is good news, and will likely reduce the - my god is better than your god - fighting, prevalent in society for eons.

People hold religious views dear. Faith has a purpose, it is a comfort when the world hands out pain. I pity aetheists (I don't care that you don't want my pity) I don't know how they get out of bed in the morning, what is their purpose? Believing in God gives me purpose. I am an intelligent person, and I am informed of all the latest 'goings on' in science. I believe that God wants us to learn about our world and space. It is when science diverges from God's word that science fails. True christians do not take part in warfare, and all the horrible things that go on. These 'false christians' have turned many into aethiests. All the worlds religions have set a pretty bad example, I can understand someone's vitriol regarding all the horrible things that have gone on in the name of God. Ya know though God sees it all and they will have to answer to him for their actions.
I do not cling to 'childhood beliefs' as you claim that those with faith are doing. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or not because he believes in you.::dunno:
inthe - actually you are highly uninformed. Yes, when Darwin ORIGINALLY presented Origin of the Species, evolution was a theory. However, to believe it still considered as such is highly uninformed. To update you, the evidence is now "overwhelming" for evolution. The amount of evidence would fill 10,000 foot lockers. It is clearly correct.
