ermmm .. actually Malta is not a town in Italy ... italy is a country for itself and Malta is an island at the south of Italy (veryyy close to italy too) but a republic of its own!

not many ppl know that malta exists unfortuantely... S:

teddybear
well, yep that is true, we were under arab control for almost 400 years wayyy back in history and in fact, all north/ north-easter african people can understand maltese the first time they hear it!!! The problem is that we do not understand a word of arab S:

There are many italian/Latin and even english words in maltese now a days though.

amazingly enough, Maltese is the only semitic language written in latin characters in the whole world.. ain't that amazing? (:
Oh Yeah 10K .. Amazingly Correct .. I admire your cultrue Man !! And just to think of me going there someday .. makes me HAPPY !
cheers

Well !! Arabic is one of the hardest launguge in the world ! but i can teach you if you want !?grin

Swan
thanks for the explanation dear Swan thumbs up

@10k so basically if I know Italian ,English and remember some Latin from school are you saying I should understand Maltese ?
ermmm ... interesting ... would love to learn arabic one day ... sure ain't an easy task, but with some effort and a couple of headaches anything is possible!

agreed?
Tottaly Agree 10K !! cheers Will be Glad to do so ! bouquet

Your First Lesson !!

Done = " Tamam " thumbs up

wink
Swan
how about heart =qalb am i right swan been trying to learn
TRUE JOHN !applause Yeah !! heart beating

Swan
@Johnwain

yep brother, you would understand many words... like:

1) we say 'cafe' to mean coffee which is from italian 'caffe'
2) we say 'napprezza' to mean appreciate from italian 'apprezzo'
3) we say 'kompjuter' which reads out exactly like the british word 'computer' and is derived from (and means exactly that in fact) english 'computer'
5) Then, we would say 'bongu' which means good morning from the french word 'bonjour'

u see... maltese is a huge mixture of languages... roots still semitic though ... ermm ... extremelyyyy difficult to write .. almost as much as french I'd say ....

cheers bro.
@stillframe

and in fact, in maltese, to say 'my heart' we would say 'qalbi' too (:

@all
further examples...

to say stone, we would say 'gebla' which reads out veryyy similar to the arabic word for stone too ... and like that there are many other words...

OK ... I'll stop nerding around... cheers guys... gotta work still ..

moping
wow that's amazing @10K , thanks very much thumbs up
WOW ..10K .. I've learned lotta of good stuff today thanx to you teddybear

Grazie , sei dolce bouquet

Swan
10k as a fellow Maltese I expected better Italian from you lol

Swan we can all help you practice here online.. seems to be the latest fad, all my lebanese friends are learning Italian now too!

Italy is a nice place but do not believe all the stereotypes - you can start your visit by going to Mercato Mall in Dubai hehe e.g. Venice is by far one of the smelliest places I have even been to
I don't see any reasons to hate Italy especially Sicily. Very famous place in both books and news as well as in other medias. cool
who said anything about hating Italy?? that would be blasphemy dude

I am just saying that the media give the wrong impression and focus on just a couple of cities when there is so much more to see

I toured all over Italy this summer and believe me the nicest spot is not what you would expect.. I fell in love with Como in the north for example. Sicily is very close to us and we have been associated with them for centuries so I assure you I have issues with it.

Seriously though nothing can prepare you for the smells in Venice, we were all shocked. As for the food you need to know where to go as the touristy places do not serve the best stuff but that is the case all over the world I suppose.

Peace out
@AJ

I believe, its 99% correct... where is it that u have issues with my italian brother.? would really appreciate if u could lemme know.
